Graphing LIBS spectral data with Excel

Open the LIBS-Data-Sample1.csv file

STEP 1

Find the Wavelength and Intensity columns

STEP 2

Highlight both columns

STEP 3 : Select data

Tip:Select the wavelength and intensity cells.

With both still selected, click Ctrl-Shift-Down. The columns will be highlighted top to bottom.

Then scroll back to the top.

Select Insert > Recommended Charts

STEP 4 : Chart

Select: XY (Scatter) with lines

STEP 5: Select chart type

Your chart should look something like this:

STEP 6

Select the chart and then Format Chart Area …

STEP 7 : Resize chart

Resize chart so you can see it easily.We use: Height = 17 cm, Width = 29 cm

STEP 8:

Select the X axis and then Format Axis …

STEP 9: Format X axis

Change the Min and Max axis bounds and the Major and Minor units as shown:

STEP 10: Set X axis values

Select the Y axis and then Format Axis …

STEP 11: Format Y axis

Set the Minimum axis bounds to 0. All other values are left set to ‘Auto’.

STEP 12: Set Y axis values

Add a title for your chart and label each axis

STEP 13: Add titles

Your finished chart should look like this.

STEP 14:

Be sure to save your chart as an Excel format (.xlxs or .xls) not a .csv or you will loose your chart!

STEP 15: Save your chart
