VALVE UPGRADE KITS
Phoenix Controls Valve Upgrade Kits provide migration from constant volume (Accel II bodies only), PxV, base upgradable, analog, and Celeris®1 valves to the latest Celeris®2 and Traccel® (certain sizes/vintages only) generation of digital valves. Upgrades engender substantial energy and operational savings as well as enhanced functionality. Upgrading the valves is non-invasive and can be done without removing the valve from the duct work. • Upgrade kits provide all the necessary hardware to upgrade
legacy valves.• A three-year warranty covers all upgrade components.• Infrastructure for the new digital networks can be configured
first then phased in when advantageous to facility scheduling.
ENERGY BENEFITS
Moving to Celeris 2 and Traccel technology provides enhanced control with energy management features previously unavailable. Upgrade will provide all the features included in the Celeris 2 and Traccel platforms.• Enhanced occupied, stand-by (LON only), timed bypass, and
unoccupied control• Advanced temperature control including cascade control,
thermal anticipatory or BTU compensation control (C2 only), temperature sensor averaging (LON only), primary and auxiliary reheat/cooling control, and chilled beam control
• Indoor Air Quality Control (IAQ) lowers standard air changes per hour based on air quality; while maintaining work envi-ronment safety
• Automatic GEX shut-off in lab spaces can be configured for energy savings (requires replacing GEX valve with a shut-off valve) (C2 only)
• Hibernation mode that allows hood valves to be driven to the minimum valve flow when not in use (may require fume hood monitor upgrade to FHM631 or Sentry-SE) (C2 only)
• Usage based controls to reduce hood flows (C2 only)
Control Type Description
ILow-Speed Floating Point (IP54) Electric
For temperature control on standalone supply valves; tracking pair valves in offices, alcoves, and vivariums to maintain minimum air flow, temperature, and space pressurization or offset.
NDigital Pneumatic(C2 only)
For high-speed fume hood containment in laboratories using pneumatically controlled actuators.
MDigital High-Speed Electric (C2 only)
For high-speed fume hood containment in laboratories using electrically controlled actuators.

PERATIONAL BENEFITS
pgrading to Celeris 2 and Traccel supports facility goals or reduced operating costs and more sustainable control rograms. Valve upgrade kits help facilities work within heir annual maintenance budgets and allow scheduled, hased-in retrofits.
The Celeris 2 and Traccel platforms create a more flexible system for adding devices such as sensors or switches as your facility growsExpedites point integration from valves or other devices on the network to the BMS, reducing the complexity of BMS programmingGives operations staff better troubleshooting tools for managing or monitoring devicesEnables maximum benefits of Phoenix Controls digital devices and their features:
• Pressure monitors and display devices• Advanced control sequences like active pressure
control, temperature control, and demand based ventilation
Leverage new front end solutions such as Supervisor and Portal for data analysis and energy savings

Vintages that Require REUSE of Existing Linkage
• BCB, BCC, and BCD upgrades to pneumatic must reuse existing "linkage to actuator" (i.e., straight links on normally closed units and reversing arms on normally open).
• All BCE upgrades (to Control Type = I, M, and N) must reuse existing "left and right linkage between pivot arms".
Vintages that Do NOT Require Linkage
• Only upgrades to high speed electric (Control Type = M) for BC1, BCA, BCE, NB1, NBF, and NBG require no "linkage to actuator".
APPLICATION EXAMPLESRefer to the drawings below for visual depictions of existing valve vintages and examples of those valves after upgrade.

UPGRADE PROJECTS OVERVIEW
This upgrade migrates analog and legacy Celeris labs integrated through a Makeup Air Controller or mature Gateway to the current version of Celeris 2 and Traccel (LON or BACnet; [certain sizes/vintages]). LON integration includes using the SRV100 MacroServerTM (providing redundant hard drive back up) or Vantage Room Manager, Room Controller and Room Integrator. The upgrade also ensures continued product support for integration and room-level operation.
Migration to current Celeris 2 and Traccel LON architecture requires the following:
1. Installing a new MacroServer with repeaters and routers as required or installing the Vantage Room Manager with Room Controllers (RMC) and Room Integrators (RMI) as required. These are optional for Traccel LON as it is LonMark certified for direct LON integration.
2. Installing 24 Vac transformers with new power runs as required based on new power requirements. Existing valves powered with ±15 Vdc will need new power runs and associated 24 Vac transformers.
3. Replacing existing temp sensors with current design temp sensors if local bypass override is required. New cable runs will also be required in lab applications where temperature control is moving from the CCU100 to a valve con-troller. Also, a PVC350-HW will be required to power new temperature sensors with display or humidity outputs (not required with Traccel BACnet since that controller provides 24 Vdc).
4. Existing fume hood controls (Fume Hood Monitor, Zone Presence Sensor®) requiring ±15 Vdc will either need to be replaced or be powered separately by new wall mounted power supplies. It is recommended that each fume hood has a dedicated WPS440. New FHM631-ENG and Sentry-SE will provide hibernation mode and energy waster alert.
5. Coordinating with BMS during transition from Celeris I Accel-Works databases, or analog, MAC, MIJ or MIX integration to new LONMaker database or Vantage RMC/RMI stations.
6. Replacing existing room-level network is recommended and building-level network wiring is required.7. Upgrading existing valves using upgrade kits listed in this guide.

EXISTING ANALOG PNEUMATIC LAB
10 OF 17 VALVE UPGRADE KITS MKT-0322 MPC-2348 ©2012 Phoenix Controls. Specifications subject to change without notice. Rev. 12/2017
Existing analog labs utilize a MAC, MIJ or MIX panel for zone balance and temperature control. Analog pneumatic labs are powered exclusively by ±15 Vdc while analog high speed electric labs are a combination of 24 Vac power and ±15 Vdc power. Additional transformers based on Celeris 2 and Traccel power requirement will be necessary. MAC, MIJ or MIX panels will be eliminated and new temperature sensors will be required. In labs and tracking pair rooms, the temperature sensors will be wired to the supply valve (“Upgraded Celeris 2 High-Speed Electric Lab” on page 12). Installing new integration devices, routers, and repeaters, room-level and building-level network wiring will be required.
Existing Celeris 1 Pneumatic Lab
Existing Celeris 1 labs utilize CCU Panels for temperature control. Celeris 1 pneumatic labs are powered by 24 Vac on Celeris 1 valves and ±15 Vdc on the analog tracking valves typically. Additional transformers based on Celeris 2 and Traccel power requirement will be necessary. CCU Panels will be eliminated, replaced with Vantage integration devices or routers, and temperature sensor wiring will be relocated to supply valves as shown in “Upgraded Celeris 2 High-Speed Electric Lab” on page 12. Installation of new Phoenix Controls integration devices is required along with the building-level network wiring. Room-level network replacement is recommended.

Upgraded Celeris 2 High-Speed Electric Lab
Most labs will be converted to C2 high speed electric which will require a dedicated 100 VA transformer to each valve. All peripheral fume hood monitors and zone presence sensors will be powered by the dedicated 24 Vac, 100 VA transformers on standard 4-8 foot hood installations. When using existing legacy Fume Hood Monitors and Zone Presence Sensors that require ±15 Vdc, it is recommended that each fume hood has a dedicated WPS440. In most cases a new temperature sensor will be required if local occupancy bypass control or local display is required.

UPGRADING FROM CELERIS 1 Existing pneumatic legacy Celeris systems can be upgraded to either Celeris 2 pneumatic, low speed electric, high speed electric, or Traccel (certain sizes/vintages only). Existing single and dual Celeris 1 and associated analog valves require one valve upgrade kit each; existing triple and quad units each require two upgrade kits. As part of the upgrade, all valves are provided with new Vpots, actuators, and control boards (“Kit Components” on page 6). A new flow curve must be generated using Phoenix Diagnostic conversion tool, V 2.5.19 or later. Air flow verification and flow curve adjustment may be required.
Certain upgrades require reuse of linkage from the existing valve. BCB, BCC, and BCD upgrades to pneumatic do not contain actuator links. So the existing ones must be reused (i.e., straight links on normally closed units and reversing arms on normally open).
The following table is a guide for valve replacement that uses single valves as examples. Dual applications will differ from the chart below. Consult your Application Engineer with any questions at time of order.

UPGRADING FROM PNEUMATIC, NO Vpot (PxV) Existing PXV (pneumatically actuated without Vpots or electronics) valves can be upgraded to either Celeris 2 pneumatic, low-speed electric, or high-speed electric, or Traccel (certain sizes/vintages only). Existing single and dual valves require one valve upgrade kit each; existing triple and quad units each require two upgrade kits. As part of the upgrade, all valves are provided with Vpots, actuators, and control boards (“Kit Components” on page 6). Because the existing valve had no Vpot, a factory flow curve does not exist. Therefore, a generic curve for the body design of the existing valve, hourglass or Accel II, must be used. Generic flow curves are provided on the Phoenix Controls Tech Forum for each valve size in both body designs.
All BCE upgrades (to Control Type = I, M, and N) exclude the "left and right linkage between pivot arms" and those on the existing valve must be reused.
