EQ: Why do artists create self-portraits?

ObjectivesDuring the unit the student will learn that

1. A self-portrait is a representation of an artist that is drawn, painted, photographed or otherwise created by the artist.

2. By analyzing and describing a self-portrait, students can gather information about the artist’s personality and emotions.

By the end of the unit the student will be able to

1. Create his/her own self-portrait in pencil using the grid transfer method.

2. Analyze a work of art based on the artist’s use of the elements of art.
