Utopia Bathroom Group is nostranger to SCM Groupmachines. The company already

has a Stefani Performance SBCombination Line, Stefani Solution andIDM Activa edgebanders as well as SCMErgon and Morbidelli CNC machiningCentres. When Utopia decided on anew edgebander, the requirement wasfor the very best glue line available, amachine that is fast and easy to set upbetween jobs especially on a shortproduction run, easy changeover ofglue types and colours and edgebanding materials with varying heightsand thicknesses of panels, and also withminimal manual operator intervention.

Says Utopia’s MD, Dave Conn, “Wedecided on the proposal for a StefaniSlim Line Solution 93 machine. We alsodemand many options to suit ourcurrent needs, but also with thepossibility in the future to upgrade.”

John Phelps, who looks after all ofUtopia's edgebanders, added, “Wewanted the new edgebander toproduce panels with an excellent glueline with no after working involved. Weuse 0.8-2mm PVC, melamine and ABSedgebanding on our carcasses, 2mm forour range of doors, but also 54mmwide edging for 50mm thick worktops.”

The new Slim Line has the very latestNordson PUR Blue closed system fittedand applies PU glue to the edgebanding through a slot device and notto the panel edge, allowing fast, cleanchangeover within seconds. Far less glue

is used and that saves cost all round. Theslot distribution system eliminates theneed for a glue pot entirely.

The Solution 93 is fitted with thevery latest PC and software controls,Stefani's WIN EDGE Plus software and a15” LCD display with touch screen.The machine can be programmeddirectly from the office.

At the infeed of the Solution is adevice to ensure that largedimensioned panels are correctlyaligned and an AAR Spray anti-adhesion unit ensures there are noglue deposits on the top and bottompanel surfaces. There is a fast-change6-station coil holding magazine. Anupper end trimming unit, YU/SP, withautomatic blade inclination, trims thetape precisely to the ends of the panel,followed by a fine finish top andbottom edge trimming unit with 2-position electronic positioning. Finaltop and bottom edge and cornerrounding is carried out by the 2Melectronic 8-position corner roundingunit which enables diamond cutterblocks to be used. Utopia’s machine isalso fitted with a grooving unit, andedge scraping unit, an oscillatingbuffing unit and a double-sided edgebrightening unit. On exit, a system ofreturn conveyors transports the panelsback to the operator for continuousprocessing.
