Using Core Math Tools to Determine the Line of Best Fit
Karla Goldhahn
Where can you download Core Math Tools?
Download the free software here: http://www.wmich.edu/cpmp/CPMP-Tools/
Demonstration:
Step 1: Open Spreadsheet
Step 2: Enter the data
Column A: input valuesColumn B: output values
For this example, I used the data from the Building and Combining functions task. Column A represents number of years since 2000; column B represents the crime rate for City A.
Step 3: Graph the Data1. Go to: Tools,Graph,Scatterplot
2. Designate the input values (horizontal) and output values (vertical)
For this example, Column A, number of years since 2000, is my input/horizontal and Column B, crime rate for City A, is my output/vertical
Step 4: Draw Regression Models1. Go to: Options,Draw Regression Model
2. There you have it, the equation for theline of best fit!
