(Reuters)TheUnitedStatesanditsalliesarediscussingimposingmoresanctionsagainstRussiaforunderminingaEuropeanbrokeredtruceineasternUkraine,U.S.SecretaryofStateJohnKerrysaidonSaturday.

KerrymadethecommentsashebegantalkswithhisBritishcounterpartPhilipHammondinLondon,accusingMoscowof"extraordinarilycravenbehaviorattheexpenseofthesovereigntyandintegrityofanation".

TheKievmilitaryaccusedRussiaonFridayofsendingtanksandtroopsintoeasternUkrainedespiteaceasefirethatwentintoforcelastSunday,brokeredbyFranceandGermanyinabidtoendaconflictthathaskilledmorethan5,000people.

TheKremlindidnotimmediatelyrespondtotheallegationbuthasalwaysdeniedaccusationsinthepastthatitsforcesarefightinginUkraine.

Kerry,however,saidtheUnitedStates"knowstoacertainty"ofRussia'sinvolvementintheconflictandsupportitwasgivingtotheseparatists.

"Russiahasengagedinanabsolutelybrazenandcynicalprocessovertheselastdays,"theSecretaryofStatesaid.

"Wearetalkingaboutadditionalsanctions,aboutadditionalefforts,andI'mconfidentoverthenextdayspeoplewillmakeitclearthatwearenotgoingtoplaythisgame,"headded.

"We'renotgoingsitthereandbepartofthiskindofextraordinarilycravenbehaviorattheexpenseofthesovereigntyandintegrityofanation."

TheceasefirehasalreadybeenbadlyshakenbytherebelcaptureonWednesdayofDebaltseve,arailwayjunctionineasternUkraine,forcingaretreatbythousandsofUkrainiantroopsinwhichatleast20Ukrainiansoldierswerekilled.

BritishForeignSecretaryHammondsaidtheceasefirehadbeen"systematicallybreached"andhewoulddiscusswithKerryhowEuropeandtheUnitedStatescouldremainunitedintacklingthechallengeinUkraine.

U.S.PresidentBarackObama'sadministrationhaspreviouslysaiditisconsideringdeepeningsanctionsagainstMoscowandisalsoweighingthepossibilityofprovidingweaponstoUkraine'smilitary,althoughofficialsstressthepriorityistofindapoliticalsolution.

WhileUkraineisexpectedtodominatethetalksinLondon,KerryandHammondsaidtheywouldalsodiscussthethreatfromIslamistmilitantsinSyria,IraqandLibya.

HammondrepeatedBritain'sviewthataunitygovernmentwasurgentlyneededinLibya"sothattheinternationalcommunitycanputitsweightbehindthatgovernmentinordertosqueezetheterroristsout."

AU.S.officialsaidKerrywouldalsodiscussNigeria'supcomingelectionandtheIsraeliPalestiniansituation.

TheSecretaryofStatetravelstoGenevaonSundayfortwodaysoftalkswithseniorIranianofficialsonTehran'sdisputednuclearprogramasthesidestrytoresolvedifferencesbeforeaMarch31deadlineforabasicframeworkagreement.

U.S.EnergySecretaryErnestMonizwillalsoattendthetalks,thefirsttimehehasparticipatedintheIrannegotiations,theU.S.officialsaid.

NegotiationsbetweentheUnitedStates,Russia,China,France,Germany,BritainandIranhavereachedacriticalstage.TheU.S.officialsaidMoniz'sinvolvementwasduetothetechnicalnatureofthecurrenttalks.
