• India is No. 1 country in the world in milk production with 124 million Mt. • But in productivity India is at 45th place in the world • USA/ New Zealand are the highest productivity countries • Because of poor feeding, management and breed quality our productivity is low
• India is No. 1 in total livestock – 35 crore • UP is the No. 1 State with large number of cattle but productivity is very low. • Punjab is No. 1 State with highest productivity of 4.5 liters milk per day per animal in a
year. • Poor feeding leads to poor milk productivity and poor health conditions.

Deficit
• UP is most deficit (63%) highest in India • Punjab is having 20% Deficit of fodder • GOI is expecting the deficit will continue
up to 2025 • Apart from the fodder GOI published the
deficit of CP (Crude Protein) and TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients) up to 25% • Poor animal health – low milk yield • Less Lactation days – less milk/year • Poor quality Milk – less fats • Less Income from dairy

Concerns in Current Fodder Crops •Low Yielding long duration varieties •Low Nutritional and low digestible crops •Requires more water and fertilizers • More Lignin/ non-digestible fibers •Low palatability and less of sweet and juiciness
• Quality Dairy Animal – Breed and Genetics
• Cost effective and balanced feeding.
– Green Fodder is the main diet and Source for low cost (should be 60% to 70% in diet)
– Energy
– Protein
– Minerals and Vitamins
– Dry Fodder
– Dry fodder should be 15 to 20 % of the total ration
– Concentrates
– Concentrates should be 15 to 20 % of the total ration
• Regular de-worming of adult and young animal
• Regular vaccination for FMD and others diseases if necessary
• Medicated bath once in a month-which remove all the external parasite because these parasite transmit many economical importance disease like Anaplasmosis,Theileriosis and babesiosis.
• Effective breeding management to achieve one calf in fifteen month.

• Field preparation
– Fine tillage and neutral soils – Good crop establishment
• Sowing
– 2 to 3 Kg seed per acre in line sowings
• Fertilizers
– 5 to 7 Mt of FYM
– More Nitrogen leads to less yield and growth of Nutrifeed
• Cutting Height
– Nutrifeed should cut at 1 to 1.2 meters height – Assures better nutrients
– Nutrifeed shoot should cut at 4” to 6” from the ground – For quick re-growth
• Irrigation
– Should irrigate within 2 days after cutting
– Urea application will boos the regrowth along with water
– Even though Nutrifeed is drought tolerance we should irrigate before feeding to avoid palatability issues
