AboutUnivesitas
PelitaHarapan
Holistic EducationAs an integral part of its teaching, learning and spiritual formation process, UPH is
truly committed to providing a Christ-centered education based on the reformed
tradition, as well as helping students develop a biblical worldview and apply it in
their day-to-day lives as true Christians.
Student DiversityUPH is an educational community with a diverse group of students coming from all
across Indonesia and oversees—including students from over 20 different countries
on every continent. UPH is proud of the unity among our students, which helps
them embrace their own cultures while introducing them to others.
Excellent FacilitiesThe UPH campus has developed rapidly and comprehensively to support the
demands of the growing student population. UPH’s educational experiences are
fully supported by excellent facilities, numerous modern buildings, a state-of-the-
art infrastructure and an Advanced Digital Campus Concept. These elements serve
as a wonderful provision in building a campus community and fully integrated
social support system. Students are able to maximize their potential through
services provided to nurture their scholarship abilities and grow personally though
participation in service learning opportunities sponsored by various student
organizations.

ABOUT THE THEME
This year UPH Festival marks not only the start of a new academic year, but also the
beginning of the 25th anniversary celebration of UPH. We are pleased to welcome
everyone to this joyful celebration of God’s faithfulness to UPH and of his call to
thousands of new and returning students to take up their studies and become
transformative leaders for the blessing of Indonesia and the glory of God.
The university has chosen the theme Grace Upon Grace, taken from John 1:16, to guide
us in planning the many varied programs and activities that will be held this year.
This verse proclaims “Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace
already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through
Jesus Christ (NIV).”
As Christians, we often sing of God’s amazing, life-changing grace to us as individual
sinners. We recount how the transformative power of Christ’s resurrection can change
“even a wretch like me.” But we sometimes fail to reflect that God’s gracious plan to
live in fellowship with his chosen people, and for the wholeness of all creation, has
been in place since before the beginning of time.
In the Old Testament, God showed undeserved kindness to his beloved people
of Israel by giving them the law. The law expressed God’s will for his people and
promised a time when something even greater would come. In the time of the
New Testament, God brought the fulfilment of this promise by showing even more
extravagant grace: he sent his own Son, Jesus Christ, who lived among us, died for
our sins, and rose as our Lord.
So, Jesus Christ is God’s grace upon grace.
The UPH vision states that we seek to be a Christ-centered university. This is
manifested in in our teaching, in our research, in our community service, and in our
life together. Through all of these activities we expose students to the great news
about God’s undeserved kindness in Jesus Christ. We also send graduates to all parts
of Indonesia and the world, so that they can work, teach, heal, lead and serve in a way
that bears witness to God’s grace upon grace. Just as Jesus is at the center of God’s
purposes for the world, so he is at the center of our purposes at UPH
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, and a new academic year, we do so with great
anticipation, joy, and thanksgiving. And we look ahead to God’s continued blessing
in the future. So, let us give thanks to God for 25 years of Christ-centered education
at UPH, and let us trust Him for continued blessing as we go on seeking to put God’s
grace upon grace at the center of our life together.
11
UPH FESTIVAL 2019
12
By the grace of God, I am delighted to welcome you to UPH and to present to you the UPH Festival 2019,
with the theme “Grace upon Grace”. The theme has been inspired by the biblical passage, John 1:16. This
year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of UPH. By the grace of God, UPH has developed itself to be
one of the institutions used by God to bless so many, and the country of Indonesia. Only by the grace of
God.
Through UPH Festival we encourage all students to think, reflect, and respond to glorify God. God has given
talents to every student; I urge every student to find your strongest talent and develop it during your study
at UPH, so that you will be best equipped to serve as a professional and/or a leader in the years to
come. UPH Festival is intended to usher you as a new student to a holistic academic life at UPH. I
pray that you will avail yourself to be transformed, empowered through UPH holistic education.
Last year we succeeded in consolidating 4 universities into “One UPH”. It was a historical
milestone for UPH – “Only by His Grace”.
We praise God that through His blessings, the consolidated, One UPH, will
become a global campus with international quality.
Let me underline the UPH vision: true knowledge, faith in Christ, and Godly
character, and pray that during your study at UPH, you will also own and
internalize the vision, so that you will be ready to be sent out to transform
lives and to glorify God.
Finally, I would like to express my deep appreciation to all the speakers,
parents, faculty members, and committee members for their support,
contributions, and hard work for the success of UPH Festival 2019.
To God be the glory!
