UNIVERSITYOFCALIFORNIA,MERCEDTheMADMinorwillimmerseyouininterdisciplinarycoursesthatfosteranalyticalskills,communicationskills,andcriticalthinkingaboutmanagingdataandanalyticsincomplexenvironments.Itwillteachyouskillsthatwillhelpyousucceedininterdisciplinaryenvironments,solveproblems,andmanageresourcesmindfulofrisk,uncertainty,humandimensions,andsustainability.Itwillcultivateskillsformanagingpeople,data,andthenaturalworld–theinterfaceofallthreecanhelpyouexploresustainablegrowthinhumanandbuiltenvironments.TheMADMinorwillprovideyouthetoolstocollect,analyze,manage,visualizeandcommunicatedatafordiversemanagementfocusingonPeople,Planet,andProfit.

Coursesrelyoncasestudiesandappliedprojectstoexemplifythediversechallengesencounteredwhensimultaneouslyseekingprofitability,socialjustice,andenvironmentalsustainability.Datagovernanceandethicalconsiderationsunderliedecision-makingandresourcemanagement.Youwillbeintroducedtothefundamentalsofentrepreneurialdecision-making,ethicsofdatauseandcustodianship,andcommunication.CasestudiesandprojectmaterialsaredrawnfromrealmanagementproblemsfromtheCentralValley,SierraNevada,andBayArea.Youwillengageinhands-on,practicalexperienceswithdata-drivenanalytics,professionalcommunication,andentrepreneurshiptoacquireknowledgeneededtounderstandandmanagecomplexsystems,including

• CriticalThinkingandAnalyticsforManagementofComplexSystems.Youwillidentifyanduseappropriateanalytical,quantitative,anddata-orientedtechniquesandapplyreasoningtoevaluatecasestudiesforstrategicdecision-makinginamulti-disciplinarysettingandinthemanagementofcomplexsystems.

• CommunicationofQuantitativeAnalysis,Results,andImplications.Youwillcommunicateeffectivelyinclassroomsettingsandwithbusinessandcommunitystakeholders,preparinganddeliveringclear,persuasive,andprofessionaloralandwrittenpresentations.

• LeadershipandTeamworkinPractice.Youwillapplyprinciplesandpracticesofeffectiveleadershipandteamworkinclassroomandprojectsettings.

• EthicsandSustainability.Youwillapplyknowledgeofethicalandlegalrequirementsandofprofessional,societalandculturalcontextsofcoupledenvironments.
