Unit SummaryUnit Summary

In this lesson, students will gather data from around the world to compare various weather trends to the weather in North Carolina. Students will be responsible for collecting data, compiling it into digital graphs, communicating with other students around the world to learn more information about the climate in their area, and sharing their information via a multimedia presentation. Students will be asked to reveal any patterns and trends that they notice and evaluate why these trends exist.

Essential Questions• How does change affect me? • How does climate around the world affect me?  Unit Questions• How do global climate trends affect the weather in

North Carolina?  Content Questions• What is climate? What are global climate trends and

how do they impact the local climate? How do we synthesize data to find trends and patterns amongst our information? How do I collect information and display it in a graph?

This project will allow students to develop 21st century skills by: Collaborating with peers. Analyzing climate data and drawing conclusions to answer Unit Questions Solving problems and making decisions about their findings. Communicating with others in a podcast.

What We Know Other Things We Would Like to Know What We Learned

(Sample Student Responses) Climate is weather All places have 4 seasons Different places can have different

weather from day to day We can watch the news for different

places or watch the weather channel everyday to find the climate for different places around the world

(Sample Student Responses) How is climate found? How does the weather man figure out

our climate?

(Sample Student Responses) Climate is weather patterns over a

long period of time We can communicate with people

around the world to learn about the climate of their area

Weather patterns travel across the world

We can share climate patterns by putting them in charts, tables, and graphs

We can share our finding through creating a podcast.

Teacher VisionTeacher Vision

My goals for this project are to….allow students to work collaboratively (locally and globally) to gain a greater understanding of climate trends.allow students to learn how to create digital graphs, podcasts, and blogs. allow students to effectively communicate their findings.

Student VisionStudent Vision

Student goals for this project include…. learning how to compile scientific data and construct a digital graph collaborating with peers (local and global) to learn about global weather patterns creating a podcast to share findings presenting information to a group of peers
