Uses of Internet
• Gather Information.
• Education and Entertainment medium.
• Send and receive messages through e-mail.
• Business through E-commerce.
• Transfer files using FTP.
• Discuss a topic using Newsgroup
• Chat with your friends using Chat.
Sending e-mail
• Open Internet Explorer.
• Type www.yahoo.com in the Address bar and press Enter key.
• The home page of yahoo is displayed on the screen.
• Click the hyperlink Sign In.

• Enter your ID and Password in the respective text boxes provided and press the Enter Key.

• Fill the fields To,CC and BCC (as required)
• Type the subject of the message in the Subject text box.
• Type the body of the message in the large text box
• Use Attach Files option to attach files to your message
• Click the Send button.
Viewing Incoming Mails
• Open yahoo and select mail hyperlink.
• Enter your username and password.
• Click the Inbox hyperlink.
• Click the mail you want to read.

E-commerce
• Expansion is Electronic commerce.• Business that involves transfer of information
about a product, exchange of goods and services over the Internet.
• Anyone who has a computer, an Internet connection and a means to pay the money for purchased goods can buy a product through E-commerce.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
• FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.• Used to transfer files over the Internet.• Upload and download your files to any place
in the world using FTP. • Uploading is the process of sending
documents from your computer to a server.• Downloading is the process of receiving
documents from a server to your computer.
Newsgroup• Newsgroup is an area on the Internet where
users can discuss on a particular topic. • Can send a message to a newsgroup on a
particular topic. Other users in that newsgroup reply to that message.
• There are several newsgroups in the Internet. The collection of all newsgroups is called Usenet.
• The computer that stores and replies the newsgroup messages is called News Server.
Chatting
• Conversation between two or more users over the Internet.
• A chat room is an area on the server that allows users to chat.
• All those who enter the chat room can see the message sent by a user and reply to that message.
