Stimuli

• Stimulus is anything you

see,hear,touch,smell or taste.

• Stimuli can be Internal or

External.

Internal Stimuli

External Stimuli

Receptors

• The body has different receptors : Internal and External

Responses

• Response is the body´s answer to a stimulus

• Responses can be Muscular or Glandular

Muscular Response

Glandular Response

Sight

The eye is the organ of sight. It is made up of the eyeball, eyelids and eyelashes.

SMELL

The nose is the organ of smell. The receptors of smell are in the pituitary gland, inside the nostrils.

Hearing

The ear is the organ of hearing it has three parts:

• The outer ear includes the ear and the ear canal

• The middle ear includes the small bones and the eardrum.

• The inner ear includes the cochlea and the auditory nerve

Touch & Taste

TOUCH

The skin is the organ of touch is made up of three layers.

TASTE

The tongue is the organ of taste the receptors of taste are in the taste buds.

What is the nervous system ?

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

The nervous system is made up of nerve centres and nerves

NEURONS

• Both the central and the peripheral nervous systems are made up of specialised cells called neurons.

• They are made up of a cell body, dendrites and axons.

VOLUNTARY AND INVOLUNTARY MOVEMENTS

Our bodies react to stimuli making voluntary or involuntary movements

VOLUNTARY MOVEMENTS

• The brain produce a response in the case of voluntary movements.

INVOLUNTARY MOVEMENTS

• The spinal cord produces a response in the case of involuntary movements

THE SKELETAL AND THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM

THE SKELETON

• The skeleton is made of the bones in the body

• Head bones: there are two groups, skull bones

and facial bones.

• Trunk bones: there are two groups , the spine

and the rib cage.

• Limb bones: there are two groups, upper limb bones and lower limb bones.

JOINTS

The joints are located where two or more bones met.

There are two types of joints:

• Movable joints

• Semi-moveable joints

• Fixed joints

THE MUSCULATURE

It is the set of muscles in the body.

Head muscles : masseter, buccinator and orbicular.

Trunk muscles : sternoclaidomastoid, abdominal and pectoral

Limb muscles :biceps , triceps, deltoid, quadriceps, gluteus and calf muscles
