Key Aim: Assessment of per capita OPFR use/excretion through wastewater analysis

-Wastewater representative of population exposure

-Changes in population exposure can be estimated from changes in chemical loads in wastewater

Est. per capita OPFR contribution to wastewater in Australia (mg/day/1000 people)

COPFR *Flow

(CF)

The Hypothesis….

Samples

• 12 STPs around Census day

• Cover East Australia

• Correlate PCPPs etc with

population

Estimate per capita

consumption

- Apply approach to OPFRs- WW Sample Archive (since 2009)

Foon Yin Lai to Antwerp in 2014

- FR - metabolites in WW?

Jochen Stockholm (in European summer)

- Specific project ideas to be discussed- (Working with Fiona on PFC model)

Birmingham Secondment….

Neither specific topic nor ER or EST is clear

Jake’s work at VU Amsterdam…● Aim: conduct a per capita assessment of OPFR exposure in the

Australian population using raw wastewater samples collected on the 2011 Australian Census day

● Tasks: ● refine the extraction (SPE – Oasis MCX) method for OPFRs in wastewater so that only a small

sample volume is required (from 100mL to 1mL)

● Analyse the Australian wastewater samples

● Cross comparison between OPFRs measured on GC-MS (EI) and LC-MSMS (ESI) in the same samples Compare measured loads of OPFRs in wastewater against the population size to determine per capita exposure and ideally identify regional differencesb

● In addition I’ve also been working on the extraction and analysis of carbamate pesticides and their metabolites in breast milk,  di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate extraction from swabs, have been learning the GCMS and over the next few weeks hope to have an introduction on the microTOF.

● I want to get some more writing done over the next few days for this confirmation document and then maybe we have a chat?
