Here is a suggestion for the email you can send:

Dear Senate Members,

We have never met, but part of my future is in your hands. I understand that you will be meeting later today to discuss re-starting some classes in order to continue some of the semester for a number of my fellow undergrads. Although I understand that it is tempting to want to continue the semester, I wish to urge you not to do so. Students may not learn in a classroom during

strikes, but we still learn plenty from the actions of our educators and those of the institution we attend. We have seen CUPE members stand strong for their beliefs and push back against the neoliberal agenda that has diminished post-secondary funding in Ontario to devastating levels. We have also seen a university administration attempt to stay as united, which is admirable. I may stand with my educators on this strike, but that does not mean I do not admire the university's cohesion.

Nevertheless, a detrimental lesson will be learned by students if you restart classes taught by CUPE 3903 Unit 2 members. You will be teaching us that strike breaking is a smart move if it advances selfish interests. You will be teaching us that selfishness is an admirable goal and it is not. Do not restart classes until the university has settled with all our educators currently on strike. Teach us that you uphold York's founding principles of equity and social justice. Teach us that you support our right to be fully educated by an institution in which we are invested. Do not coerce undergraduates to cross picket lines. Allow the admin and the union to come to a full agreement, then resume our classes.

Yours sincerely,
