Totaled scores from each format are used to determine the winner.

given 20 minutes to answer 12 questions. There will be various styles of questions used for the
written quiz:
Completion

Multiple Choice Quizzing
This segment is also referred to as “Paddles”. The multiple-choice segment allows participants to
perform in a low-key competitive atmosphere. Participants from each book are given an
opportunity to answer a series of multiple-choice questions using the A-B-C cards/paddles.
Rules for Multiple-Choice Quizzing
Quizzers from each team by book will be asked a series of multiple-choice questions.
Questions and possible answers will be read twice. There will be three answers to choose
from. Quizzers have five seconds to determine their choice of answers.
During the reading of the questions, quizzers must look down at their cards/paddles while
deciding their answers. Looking any other place is an automatic disqualification from that
question.
When the five seconds are up, he will call, “Ready, cards up.”
After the “Ready, cards up” call has been made, no card/paddle may be exchanged for
another paddle.
If a participant’s card/paddle is raised late, the participant is disqualified from that
question.
At the “Cards down” command, participants must lower their cards/paddles.
Teams are awarded 10 points for each correct answer.
No points are deducted for incorrect answers.
Apparel Awana emphasizes the importance of modesty, neatness and cleanliness in the apparel worn by
both leaders and clubbers of all ages. All participants (including leaders and coaches) must wear
an official Awana uniform. Skirts, slacks, or jeans are to be worn (no shorts). A 2-point
deduction will be given during each session for each participant not in uniform.
Quiz Questions
Questions are taken from the first four (4) discoveries/challenges. The quizzers should be
familiar with:
Bible verses and references Word Wise
Brain Checks Clue 4 You
Books of the Bible Search Sites
Quiz Questions and Answers All questions will be taken from the material in the latest edition of the Awana
handbooks, manuals and materials. Participants are not expected to interpret the
materials.

The Awana missionary or event specialist will determine quiz material covered.
Questions may be asked on any part of the books assigned, including verses, Bible
readings, definitions, etc. (sections, Discoveries, Challenges, lessons).
The quizmaster prefaces each question with the word “question.” No talking is allowed
from the word “question” until the answer is given.
Should the quizmaster read a question improperly, the question may be discarded and a
new one selected.
Time-outs No time-outs are allowed.
The quizmaster is the only official who can declare a time-out.
Coaches Each team is allowed only one official coach during the quiz meet.
The team coaches may talk to their teams while the teams rotate for their quiz or during
team substitutions
Appeals Only the official coach may appeal a question or an answer. The coach does this by
calling out “question.” The immediate preceding question is the only one that may be
appealed by the coach.
All appeals are directed to the head judge. When recognized, the coach confers privately
with the head judge. After the coach voices the question, the coach must return to his or
her seat while a decision is being made.
The head judge may consult with quiz judges before making a decision. In all cases, the
decisions of the head judge are final.

Parents Guide
Like most things in life for a child, his/her success in an endeavor (like Bible Quizzing) directly
relates to the support of their parents. You can help you child prepare for Bible Quizzing in the
following ways.
1) Encourage them to study! Each study packet comes with a suggested practice schedule
and a practice schedule log for you to sign (see below). We are asking your child to
study for at least 20 minutes for 5 days before we have a practice.
Parents – for each day your child studies for at least 20 minutes, please sign/initial the box.
Date Signature
2) Test your children on what they have studied. The rule book explains how Bible
Quizzing works and how your child will be tested. After you child has studied for the 20
minutes, take another 10 minutes to ask some questions. There are many different ways
of testing your child:
a. Have them give all the answers to a main question (from Book I).
Why did God give us the Bible?
1. So we can know who He is.
2. So that we can know that He is the one and only true God.
3. So we can know His words are always true
4. So we can learn about people from the past.
b. Have them recite some verses.
c. Have them define some of the definitions provided.
d. Have them give answers for the SearchSite materials.
3) Give them some practice multiple choice questions to simulate paddle quizzing.
1. What is the reference for the verse "Your word is truth."?
a. Psalm 119:74b
b. Psalm 100:3
c. John 17:17b
2. Jeremiah 10:10a says, "But the Lord is the ______ God; He is the living God."
a. one
b. true
c. only

4) Review, review, review! We will be practicing for 4 weeks before the actual Bible
Quizzing Event. Each practice session will concentrate on a single Discovery/Challenge.
When you are testing your child, ask a few questions about a previous section as a
review.
5) Bring them to every practice. As was mentioned before, we will be practicing a different
section every week to help the clubbers before the actual Bible Quizzing competition.
The more your child practices, the better he/she will be prepared. We do not simply ask
questions during practices, but we actually practice in a competition style so your child
can be familiar with was happens during a competition. All clubbers will practice paddle
quizzing and all clubbers will practice taking written quizzes.
6) Pray with and for your child.
