rades like bricklaying or cabine making, hen
is likely you would consider an appreniceship.
Traineeships are usually in non-rade areas such
as business, hospialiy, process manuacuring
and healh.
You spend mos o he ime in paid employmen,
learning pracical skills on he job and puting
hem ino pracice. The res o he ime is
spen in srucured raining a TAFE, anoher
regisered raining organisaion or in he
workplace. The raining requiremens are par o
your raining plan which is negoiaed beweenyour employer, you and your regisered raining
organisaion.
Appreniceships/raineeships are compeency
based. This means you can complee your
raining earlier i you can show you have reached
he skill levels required or your indusry.
Appreniceships/raineeships are open o men
and women o all ages. Mos can be underaken
on a ull-ime or par-ime basis and many can
be sared a school.
All kinds o people, including people wih
disabiliies and rom diering culural
backgrounds, can nd an appreniceship/

EarnmoneyandlearnspecialistskillsAs a rough guide, minimum apprenice
wages vary rom $260 o $342 a week in rsyear, $342 o $466 in second year and rom
$466 o $547 in hird year. Adul raes can also
apply and are generally a second year level.
Minimum rainee wages or ull-ime rainees
or a Year 12 school leaver are around $250 a
week in he rs year.

Saring yourappreniceship/raineeship
Signing he raining conracOnce you have an appreniceship/raineeship
posiion, you or your employer conacs an
Ausralian Appreniceships Cenre wihin
21 days o you saring work o organise he
signing o your raining conrac. This is
required by law o proec your righs and
hose o he employer.
A raining conrac is a legally binding conrac
beween you, your employer and your paren/
carer (where required). Your raining conrac is
or a nominal erm which is he expeced ime i
will ake you o complee your appreniceship/
raineeship. I oulines he righs and
responsibiliies or you and your employer.
Your raining conrac is orwarded o
AppreniCenre or regisraion o your
appreniceship/raineeship.

Probation
You are on probaion or one o hree monhs
