ASTRA Pro Release 5.0, User’s Guide for Tutorial Data

Tutorial 01 Design of RCC ‘T’ Girder Bridge

======================================

USER's Guide to run Project Data for Design of RCC ‘T’ Girder Bridge, To understand various data syntax user may

refer to relevant section of ASTRA Pro main screen “Help” or “User’s Manual”,

Select ASTRA Pro menu item “Process Design>>Bridge Design>>Working Folder”,

Select your working folder as “Desktop>>WORK”, Click on button “OK”,

Select the Design Standard of your choice, Here “Indian Standard” is selected,

Select ASTRA Pro menu item “Process Design>>Bridge Design>>RCC T-Beam Bridge”,

The current selected Tab is “Analysis of Bridge Deck”, In this Tab there are two more Tabs "User Input data" and

"Analysis Process". The current Tab is "User Input Data", The various data Dead Load, Super Imposed Dead Load and

Live Load are given as default data, user may change the data as desired.

The current Tab is "Analysis Process", Click on button “Create Analysis Data” as shown below, The Analysis Input Data

is created in the working folder, User may use the button "View Analysis Data" to open the Analysis Input data, user

may change the data as desired and save the data.

Click on button “Process Analysis” as shown below, The process dialog box comes click on button "Proceed", next the

message box comes mentioning about the total number of moving load cases created by total number of moving

increment steps by the moving load, click on button "OK", This will be the Analysis for all loads together,

As the process dialog box comes click on button "PROCEED", and wait for some time till the process is over,

As the process is over Message Box comes informing about the All Load Analysis Report, created in the working folder,

click on button "OK",

The Message box comes mentioning about the next process for Analysis for Live Load only, click on button "OK",

As the process dialog box comes click on button "Proceed", next the message box comes mentioning about the total

number of moving load cases created by total number of moving increment steps by the moving load, click on button

"OK",

As the process dialog box comes click on button "PROCEED", and wait for some time till the process is over,

As the process is over Message Box comes informing about the Live Load Analysis Report, created in the working

folder, click on button "OK",

The Message box comes mentioning about the next process for Analysis for Dead Load only, click on button "OK",

As the process dialog box comes click on button "Proceed", next the message box comes mentioning about the total

number of load cases for the applied Dead Load, click on button "OK",

As the process dialog box comes click on button "PROCEED", and wait for some time till the process is over,

As the process is over Message Box comes informing about the Live Load Analysis Report, created in the working

folder, click on button "OK",

Next the program reads the Analysis report and displays the data in the screen,

The current screen is for "Analysis Results" under the Tab "Analysis Process", the screen displays the various results

as obtained from the Analysis Report,

as obtained from the Analysis Report,

Next, Select the Tab "Long Main Girders", the design will be done for "Inner Girder", The data in RED color are taken

from the User's Input data for Bridge Deck Analysis and its output, Others are the default data which user may

change as desired, Click on button "Process",

The Message comes mentioning about the Design report created in the working folder, Click on button "OK",

Next, Select the Tab "Cross Girders", The data in RED color are taken from the User's Input data for Bridge Deck

Analysis and its Output, Others are the default data which user may change as desired, Click on button "Process",

Next, Select the Tab "Deck Slab", The data in RED color are taken from the User's Input data for Bridge Deck

Analysis, Others are the default data which user may change as desired, Click on button "Process",

Next comes the Pegaud's curve for uniformly distributed load applied on the deck slab, enter the values of m1 and m2

by taking from the curve, click on "OK",

Next, Select the Tab "RCC Abutment", The data in RED color are taken from the User's Input data and output for

Bridge Deck Analysis, Others are the default data which user may change as desired, Click on button "Process",

Next, Select the Tab "RCC Piers" and within it select Tab "Design Input data [Form1]", The data in RED color are

taken from the User's Input data for Bridge Deck Analysis and its Output, Others are the default data which user may

change as desired,

Next, Select the Tab "RCC Piers" and within it select Tab "Diagram", User may refer to the this Diagram in entering

the various Dimension Data, Click on button "Process",

Now the screen comes for Interaction Diagram Chart for Steel, for the values of fy=415 N/Sq. mm, d'/D=0.05.

Pu/(F c k x b x D) = 0.0419 and p/f c k = 0.048, the value of M u x 1 / (fck x b x D x D) = 0.075 as obtained from the

Chart.

Next the screen comes for Interaction Diagram Chart for Percentage of Steel 'p', for the values of fy=415 N/Sq. mm,

fck=25 N/Sq.mm. The value of Puz / Ag = 15.0 as obtained from the Chart.

Next the screen comes for Interaction Diagram Chart for Pu/P u z = 0.0698, for the values of Muy/Muy1=0.0283.

the value of M u x / M u x1 = 0.97 as obtained from the Chart.

Click on button "OK" at the bottom of the screen, The Process of Design of RCC Pier is finished and the Message

comes mentioning about the Design Report created in the working folder, Click on "OK",

The next Tab selected is for “Drawings”, let all the data remain unchanged, Click on button “Process”, the design will

be done, Select the Drawings for Span 13m, Click on button “Open Standard Drawings”,

A set of drawings will be opened in ASTRA Viewer as shown below, A list of four drawings are there on the left side,

The drawing GAD is selected and is displayed, the drawings are CAD drawings and may be saved as DWG files, the

drawings are editable to modify reinforcement bars etc. as desired by the user,

The drawing Deck Slab is selected and is displayed, the drawings are CAD drawings and may be saved as DWG files,

The drawing LONG GIRDERS is selected and is displayed, the drawings are CAD drawings and may be saved as DWG
