About Eddie Frank
Founder and Owner of Tusker Trail, Eddie Frank, has
been leading Kilimanjaro climbs for more than 37
years. Born and raised in Africa, Eddie’s vision for the
company took root during his early teens when he
dreamed of creating a world-class Kilimanjaro climbing
company. Now, after having completed 50 climbs
Eddie Frank has secured Tusker Trail’s reputation as
the top climbing outfitter on Kilimanjaro. Eddie consults
regularly with the US Army Special Forces using his
knowledge of high altitude strategies and techniques.
Expert Guides
Tusker Trail’s superb guides are highly skilled,
medically-trained mountain guides who are the envy
of every company on Kilimanjaro. Tusker Trail’s
world-renowned High Altitude First Responder
medical course prepares it’s expert guiding team for
any high altitude medical scenario that can take
place in Kilimanjaro’s harsh environment. The
Tusker guides’ leadership and continually renewed
medical skills put them in a league of their own.
Their high altitude expertise and climbing
knowledge, along with their finely tuned leadership
skills instill confidence and offers peace of mind to
climbers who dream of summiting Kilimanjaro.
Safety
Tusker Trail’s primary concern on their Kilimanjaro climbs is
safety. Tusker’s professional, medically-trained mountain
guides monitor climbers every step of the way and are
considered the finest on the mountain. Because of
Kilimanjaro’s extreme environment, accidents and fatalities
are a serious concern. While no one can completely
guarantee a climber’s safety, Tusker Trail’s leaders are fully
prepared for high altitude medical challenges, including
expert evacuation. They are meticulously trained to save
lives during high altitude emergencies. Tusker Trail’s 50-
hour intensive High Altitude First Responder medical
training course is not offered by any other company on
Mount Kilimanjaro, and climbers can be rest assured that
Tusker Trail’s guides have received the most
comprehensive medical training in the business. Tusker
Trail’s Kilimanjaro summit rate is 99%---more than
double the average on the mountain.
‘Elevated’ Cuisine
The most pleasantly surprising highlight of the Kilimanjaro
climbing experience with Tusker Trail is quite possibly the
cuisine. For a five-year period, Tusker Trail has engaged
the Culinary Institute of America to train their Kilimanjaro
chefs. The Culinary Institute of America has also been
enlisted to design Tusker’s extraordinary ‘mountain
menus’. Working closely with Chef David Kamen,
professor of culinary arts, and Chef James Hanyzeski
CMC, Tusker Trail owners Eddie and Amy Frank have
brought a whole new meaning to the term "elevated
cuisine." While climbing Kilimanjaro, adventurers will
enjoy sumptuous, carefully prepared meals made with
fresh meat, fruits, and vegetables. Guests dine in comfort
in roomy all-weather dining tents equipped with tables,
folding chairs, and gas lamps for warmth and lighting.
Kilimanjaro Climb Routes
Tusker Trail offers a variety of Kilimanjaro climbing
routes that vary in price, climbing length and
accommodation, from camping to mountain huts.

Charity Fundraising Climbs
To date, Tusker Trail has led 77 charity fundraising
treks with 51 different charity groups and has helped
these charities raise more than $11 million. Tusker
Trail led its first fundraising climb to the summit of
Kilimanjaro in August 2001 for the Make-a-Wish
Foundation and has since helped renowned non-profit
organizations such as CARE, the Canadian Breast
Cancer Foundation, the Canadian Blood Services, and
the Montreal Canadiens Children Foundation. Tusker
Trail offers discounts and makes donations to bona
fide charities.
Trip Extensions
After completing their Kilimanjaro climb, guests can
choose to add an optional Tanzania wildlife safari
onto their trip which can be a spectacular way to
celebrate the achievement of summiting Mount
Kilimanjaro. Tusker Trail can take travelers on safari
though Tanzania’s most spectacular most beautiful
game reserves such as Serengeti National Park,
Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire.
Guests stay at Tanzania’s classic wildlife safari
lodges and tented camps and have the
quintessential safari experience.
