Smile of the Week Goes to Tanya McMaster for an

awesome Halloween costume.

Smile of the Week Goes to Jess Druce for doing a great job

with Kinder Orientation.

Hi everyone, Term 4 is flying by. Exams this week

and hard work to the very end!

Our Video goes viral!

More amazing news this week – our Archibull Prize

Video has been placed in the top five finalists! Pat

Skinner was the budding director and creator and he

will be interviewed about his work when the team

goes down to Sydney on Monday. Fingers crossed for

our bull, our movie and our blog! You will hear much

more after the announcement ceremony on Monday.

We are all SO EXCITED!!

Bush Fires Support

On Monday morning Mrs Phyllis Carthy came and

addressed our students to talk to them about how the

bushfires have affected the students in the Winmalee

and Springwood area. As I wrote last week, the

Springwood community was so generous to us

during the terrible drought and now we have a chance

to repay their kindness. Our school raised

approximately $260 and these funds will be sent to

the Winmalee High School (WHS) Bushfire Appeal

Trust Fund to be used to provide support for the

students affected by the fires. The Principal of WHS

says that she has already provided funds to pay for

excursions, equipment etc and we are delighted to be

able to support these students who are doing it really

tough.

We LOVE Maths

Being a Primary student in a Central School is such

an advantage. There is a great pool of secondary

subject specialists to offer extension, experiences and

subject knowledge across K-6. We already have Dr

Sarswat teaching Year 5/6 in our new Science lab, Mr

Jones teaching Art to Year 5/6 and their mural

projects have been outstanding, we have Mrs

McKinnon cooking in our special Hospitality room

with Sapphires and NOW we have Mr Holden

delivering ‘Holden Special’ Mathematics lessons in

Year 3/4. The students have been incredibly excited

and Mr Holden’s expertise and passion for

Mathematics is benefiting the students and also offers

a great professional learning opportunity for our

primary staff.

We Also LOVE Music

Our commitment to the Performing Arts continues and

Mr Lee’s instrumental program goes from strength to

strength. I absolutely believe that there is close

correlation between those students who learn a musical

instrument and their academic achievement, particularly

in Mathematics. Vital skills such as perseverance,

concentration and pattern recognition are also

developed. I also believe that ALL students should have

access to such a wonderful opportunity. I am passionate

about equity of access for all students and so have made

it a priority to ensure that this is not about what you can

afford but is so much more about how much effort you

are willing to commit – and that costs nothing!

Every child has equal right to a first rate, creative and

academically challenging education, no matter what

their family circumstances are, and that is what we

provide at our school, in small classes with outstanding

teachers. Enrol at any time!

TCS App

Our Phone App is now up and running so download it

and have a look. We are still working at it so would

welcome any feedback if you see any problems. We aim

to be the best communicators in the business, but only

being human sometimes miss things. Please let us know

if you notice anything that needs fixing, and this goes

for any part of our operation. We aim for excellence but

need your help to achieve that.

Finally ........

My belief is that if a child is not at school then they

cannot learn. I will continue to work with families and

support them in ensuring that all children attend

regularly and so take full advantage of all the

opportunities that a good education offers. It is the best

possible gift you can give your child. We cannot do this

unless we work as a team.

Remember :

Don’t Procrastinate! Or you’ll be late!!

As always, my door is open. Do not hesitate to come in

and see me if you have a concern. No problem is too

hard to solve if we work together.

All the best

SECONDARY Exciting News!!! Our Archibull Team is off to Sydney for the Archibull Awards on Monday. They have made

the top 14 in the State which includes both Primary and High schools. Our video presentation

by Pat Skinner has made the top 5. The team should be rewarded for all their efforts and the

final product was amazing. We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to hearing the

results. Our school is so lucky to have such talented staff and students.

Stage 4 History This term students in Years 7 & 8 have been studying Medieval Times in History. Their assessment was to

construct a model castle that reflected the style from that time period. The students learnt a lot from the

project, including the responsibility of planning and working together to meet the set date for submission.

They also had to use their imaginations, interpret the information gathered to produce a replica and use

materials that would suit the construction. The castles are now completed and are currently being stored in the

Memorial Hall in Trangie. They will be marked on Wednesday 20th November between 2 – 3pm and anyone

wishing to view the castles is more than welcome to attend. Mrs Seymour and Mr Tatnell would like to thank

the parents who have lived through the assessment but want to say how worthwhile the whole experience has

been. A big congratulation to the students for their efforts and enthusiasm in creating the castles.

First Aid Course Year 10 students have the opportunity to complete their First Aid Certificate on 3rd and

4th December here at Trangie Central School. This is a very important qualification to

obtain and we urge all students to participate. A permission note will be sent home

shortly with all relevant information attached.

New Course In 2014 we are proposing to offer an Adult Education Photography/Digital Imaging course for interested

members of the community. This course would offer such topics as:

Understanding and using your digital camera

Storing and cataloguing your digital images

Printing and storage of prints

Digital manipulation using computer software

A final project (to be discussed after the course begins)

For those who are interested please contact the school office on

68887578.

Have a great weekend

PRIMARY

Assistant Principals Report Congratulations to our Primary tennis team who competed well, under very

trying, hot conditions at Tottenham last Friday. Our children conducted

themselves well and showed great perseverance when competing. Special

mention goes to Nikeata McMaster (Yr 3) and Luwana Tumai-Lynch (Yr 6)

who were chosen by the umpires as being exceptional sportswomen.

On Monday, our school honoured and remembered

those who have served Australia in war. We listened

to poetry and reports about World War One and

Armistice Day and we observed a minutes silence to

show our respect towards our Service men and

women. At Trangie Central School we hope to learn

about the past and use that knowledge to inform our future decisions. Our

school song reflects our ethos about learning about the world and acting

honourably…

“Trangie Central School,

Knowledge and honour

Strive for knowledge

Aim for honour,

In our future lives

Knowledge gives us choice,

Honour helps us choose

Let’s remember this our motto,

Far from Trangie School”

KINDER ORIENTATION

We extend an invitation to all preschool aged children, to attend our Kinder

orientation at TCS. Our final session will run from 9am – 11am on:

Wednesday 27th November

(Creative and Practical Arts)

Wednesday’s Early Bird students will go

with Miss Greer. We would love to see

Tuesday’s students attend the orientation on these days as well. This is an

exciting time for our littlest students as they are getting close to starting big

school.

HOME READING

Home reading is an essential element in mastering

reading. We expect all students to read for at least 15

minutes each night and we encourage even our older

students, to read to a parent or caregiver. Books are

available, leveled from the classroom teacher, or

borrowed from the school or town library. Please

make the time to work on this at home with your child.

Don’t Forget

Jump Rope for Heart is on

this Friday 15th of November.

It will form part of a

fundraiser to raise money for

t h e N a t i o n a l H e a r t

Foundation. Children can

wear red on Friday and are

asked to bring a gold coin

donation as part of our

fundraising

effort.

Please make

sure your

child has a

drink bottle

full of cool

water

on the day, as skipping is

hot, thirsty work!

Headlice Parents please be aware that

headlice LOVE the warmer

months and we have seen a

couple of cases of headlice at

school already.

Please be vigilant and check

your child’s hair for signs of

life each day. If your child

has an infestation please treat

it thoroughly BEFORE

sending your child back to

school. It is lovely to

share...but NOT headlice!

PRIMARY 5/6 Gems

This term in the Gems classroom we have been studying the COGs unit "Physical Phenomena". We have

been developing an understanding that energy can be transferred, stored and transformed from one form to

another.

PDHPE - Energy through movement In PDHPE we have been exploring the links between energy intake and

expenditure. We have learnt how to read nutritional labels on different foods and

to identify energy intake (kilojoules), fats, sugars and salts, as well as better

understand the term kilojoules (the amount of energy in food).

5/6 have also had the opportunity to explore different ways of being physically

active. Students were broken up into small groups and they had to design and

create their own session of physical activity, they then had to present it to the rest

of the class.

Some of the ideas for the sessions included relays, obstacle courses, vigorous

games, dance and gymnastics activities. Each group was encouraged to include

a variety of movement activities. Stopwatches could be used and music could

also be incorporated to support the activity. The students had two weeks to plan,

create and refine the session.

Following this each group then presented (explained and taught) their activity to

the rest of the class. Each group was responsible for explaining the benefits of

the activity to other students.

English In our English sessions we have been engrossed in a selection of Paul Jennings short stories. We have

particularly enjoyed "Spooks Incorporated" and "The Copy". Paul Jennings is an excellent author who is very

clever at building suspense in his stories. Jennings often makes things happen slowly in order to build

dramatic tension. We have tried to use this method in our own writing to develop some tension. Here is an

example from Johnny Dolphin-Smith.

Drama in the Artic Sea The beluga and the ringed seal were walking and swimming,

when over in the iceberg there was the sound of loud footsteps.

The beluga and the ringed seal were freaking out. The footsteps were coming closer.

They could see warm winter fur. This creature was coming from behind the iceberg.

The beluga and the seal were so freaked out that they dived into the water and swam to safety.

When the creature came out from the shadows of the iceberg it was a…..polar bear!

Teach your children well

On Friday 8th November a group of 15 students from Years 3 to 6 travelled to Tottenham for the annual

NARRAF/Gobondery tennis day.

The students made up 4 teams of girls and boys doubles and mixed doubles. Each team played a total of 3

games.

I can proudly say that every student played to the best of their ability and I witnessed some very smart and

fierce play. It was wonderful to see the students having a great time and making new friends. Everyone

represented Trangie Central School at a high level.

A special mention must go out to Luwana Tumai-Lynch and Nikeata McMaster for being picked by the

umpires as displaying outstanding sportsmanship. Both girls were presented with a special award on the

day. Well done girls!

On Tuesday Kinder and 1/2 went on a big bus to Wambangalang. When we arrived we met a teddy bear called

Theodore. Theodore asked us to put our teddies and lunch into a big box while we went outside looking at

interesting insects. When we came back inside our teddies had left a note to say

they had gone into the forest and they told us to go on a bear hunt to find them.

I was lucky because I was allowed to carry Theodore when we looked for our

teddies. When we found our teddies and lunch boxes we sat and had a Teddy

Bear’s Picnic. It was really fun and the teddies looked so cute. It was the best

day ever and we got to go home on the bus. My Nan was waiting to pick me up

at school.

By Mia Gleeson

We went to Wambangalang after a long bus trip and we played some games. Then our teddy bears took our

lunches and water bottles and set up a picnic. We went for a walk and we saw a

lizard on a branch sunbaking. On the way back we saw it had turned around

and we watched it for a minute and we saw it turn around again! After lunch

we got to see colourful birds and at the end of the day we got to play on the

equipment. When the bus got there to pick us up they rang a bell and we had to

get our things and hop on the bus.

By Audrey Kater

One day we went on a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. We sat outside when we got there and then we went into a

classroom and left our teddy bears there. We went for a walk afterwards into the

bush and we had to find some plants and leaves that were yellow, brown, purple,

pink and red to stick on a piece of paper that had a rainbow on it. When we were

finished we went to look for our teddy bears. Then at the end of the day we had

a play. On our way home we dropped Miss Williams in Dubbo and we went

back to Trangie.

The Western Access Program is highly successful in delivering a wider curriculum across our

school, maximising student choice and achievement. Each week there will be a newsletter article

promoting courses run across the Western Access Program. This weeks article promotes the

HSC Extension History Course.

HSC Extension History – Natasha Shankleton - Tullamore

Extension History is only studied in the HSC year. The course builds on what students have studied in the

Ancient History and Modern History courses and provides students with the opportunity to gain greater

knowledge and understanding of the way history is

written.

Students explore issues through readings selected

from the works of various writers and historians

from ancient times to the present day and complete

a case study on an area of debate.

In the HSC course students are currently studying

“What is history?” and will complete a history

project and a case study on the Women Convicts

of NSW.
