การเชื่อม TIGการเชื่อม TIG อาศัยความรอนท่ีเกิดจากการอารคระหวางลวดทังสเตนกับช้ินงานเชื่อม โดยมีแก็สเฉื่อยปกคลุมบริเวณรอยเชื่อมท้ังหมดเพื่อไมใหอากาศภายนอกเขามาทําปฏิกริยาในบริเวณรอยเชื่อม
การเชื่อม MIGการเชื่อม MIG อาศัยความรอนท่ีเกิดจากการอารคระหวางลวดเชื่อมกับช้ินงาน ลวดเชื่อมท่ีใชเปนโลหะเปลือยท่ีสงปอนอยางตอเนื่อง โดยมีแก็สเฉ่ือยปกคลุมบริเวณรอยเชื่อมท้ังหมดเพื่อไมใหอากาศภายนอกเขามาทําปฏิกริยาในบริเวณรอยเชื่อม
การเชื่อมใตฟลักซการเชื่อมใตฟลักซจะอาศัยความรอนจากการอารคระหวางลวดเชื่อมเปลือยกับช้ินงาน โดยมีฟลักซชนิดเม็ด (Granular Flux) ปกคลุมบริเวณอารค ฟลักซชนิดเม็ดท่ีอยูใกลรอยเช่ือมจะหลอมละลายปกคลุมบริเวณท่ีทําการเชื่อมเพื่อปองกันอากาศภายนอกทําปฏิกริยา

การเชื่อมมีวัตถุประสงคเพื่อ “ยึดตอชิ้นงานอยางถาวร”การเชื่อมโลหะที่พบไดโดยทั่วไปประกอบดวย 6 ประเภทใหญๆ1. การเชื่อมแก็ส (Gas Welding)2. การเชื่อมไฟฟา (Arc Welding)3. การเชื่อมอัด (Press Welding, Resistance Welding)4. การเชื่อม TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding)

การเชื่อมแก็สการเชื่อมแก็สอาศัยความรอนจากการเผาไหมระหวางแก็สเชื้อเพลิงอะเซทิลีนกับออกซิเจน หลอมละลายโลหะใหติดกันดวยการเตมิลวดเช่ือม (Filler Metal or Welding rod) หรืออาจใหเนื้อโลหะหลอมละลายติดกันเองโดยไมเติมลวดเชื่อมก็ได
การเชื่อมไฟฟาการเชื่อมไฟฟาหรืออาจเรียกวาการเชื่อมอารค (Arc Welding) เกิดจากการนําความรอนท่ีใชในการเชื่อมจากการเกิดประกายอารคระหวางชิ้นงานและลวดเชื่อม จะทําใหลวดเชื่อมหลอมละลายเสมือนเปนการปอนเนื้อโลหะใหแกรอยเช่ือม
การเชื่อมอัดการเชื่อมอัดเปนการอาศัยความรอนจากความตานทานไฟฟาและอัดใหช้ินงานติดกัน เนื่องจากหลกัการเชื่อมนี้ทําใหมีช่ือเรียกหลายชื่อคือ Press Welding, Resistance Welding, Spot Welding เปนตน

จากนั้นทําการสรางชิ้นงานสวนตางๆจนเปนที่พอใจแลวใหกําหนด
