FOMC Meeting: Fed Launches Operation Twist

FOMC Meeting

The Committee discussed the range of policy tools available to promote a stronger economic recovery in a context of price stability. 

It will continue to assess the economic outlook in light of incoming information and is prepared to employ these tools as appropriate

FOMC: Four Key Ideas

1st: There will be no rate hikes until mid-2013.

2nd: The Fed says downside risks to the economy have grown.

3rd:The Fed is prepared to use additional tools if warranted.

4th:Three Fed members have dissented from the FOMC decision.

FOMC Vote- 7:3

Voting for the FOMC monetary policy action were: Ben S. Bernanke, Chairman William C. Dudley, Vice Chairman Elizabeth A. Duke Charles L. Evans Sarah Bloom Raskin Daniel K. Tarullo Janet L. Yellen.

Voting against the action were: Richard W. Fisher Narayana

Kocherlakota Charles I. Plosser

The Three Dissenters, would have preferred to continue to describe economic conditions as likely to warrant exceptionally low levels for the federal funds rate for an extended period.
