GOOD afternoon to everyone attending today’s match at Love Lane, including the players, officials and supporters from United Services Portsmouth and the match officials.
So, how are your nerves after the Easter weekend then? It was a fantastic game of football to watch at Andover Town on Easter Saturday – the only disap-pointment being that the draw took the destiny of where the league title would go out of our hands.
With Andover one point ahead of us it meant if they won their last two league matches then there was nothing we could do to stop them winning the league.
Or so we thought – fast forward to 4.50pm on Eas-ter Monday and not only had our win at Fleet Spurs secured us promotion, Andover had been held to a draw meaning we went top of the table for the first time this season and a win today will secure the title for us.
It just goes to show you what a funny old game foot-ball can be sometimes – after Saturday not many of us thought winning the Wessex Division 1 title was still on but things were very different come Monday evening.
So we have the chance to end our league season with some silverware. The main aim for us this season – getting promotion to the Wessex Premier Division – has been achieved so anything else is a bonus.
This afternoon won’t be easy. US Portsmouth are a decent side who I’m sure will try to make life as difficult as possible for us. However, with the correct prepara-tion and application from the players, I am absolutely positive we will get the three points we need.
As this is is the last edition of the matchday pro-gramme for the season I would just like to thank every-one for their support this season. All the best.

MANAGER’S notes
FIRSTLY I would like to extend a warm welcome to our friends from US Ports-mouth, many of whom have been part our club in the past.
Although they wear a different badge now, I am sure underneath it all they are quietly pleased for our promo-tion.
I have no doubt they will be all doing their upmost to stop us from claiming the title, but I can only hope my team continue their good form and get the three points required to be crowned as champi-ons today.
Secondly I wanted to say a very public well done to all of my play-ers and support staff for the fantastic achievement of promotion.
We have had a very ‘trying’ last four weeks, but we have come through that pe-riod to claim our ultimate goal of becoming a Premier Division club for next season.
Many may have doubted
our togetherness following three home defeats in a row but the lads have proved we are a solid group and our team spirit and obvious ability has proved to be enough to reap the rewards.
It has been a brilliant ride so far this season and to win today would be
fantastic and truly would be the icing on the cake.
We still have a cup final to look forward to, versus Premier Division table toppers Alresford Town and I hope to see as many Petersfield sup-porters there on the day as possible.
Today see’s the final chapter in the Division 1 story and we all look forward to writing new
history for this fantas-tic football club.
All the best.
Sus
I want to say a very public well done to the players and all my support staff

PETERSFIELD’S reserves team are also going for silverware in the closing stages of the season.
They have completed their league sea-son and currently sit in second place in the Wyvern League’s East Division after a strong finish to the league campaign under the management of Rich Bessey.
This Monday evening (April 28) they face Horndean in the semi finals of the Wyvern Shield, kick-off 7.45pm.
If they win this game they will then take on Sholing or Team Solent in the final – which will be held at AFC Portchester’s ground on Thursday, May 8. Kick-off will be at 7.45pm.

In the second round they won 4-1 at Totton and Eling, and then 2-1 in round three at Brockenhurst.
The quarter finals brought the exciting 4-3 triumph at Moneyfields and the semi finals brought the equally exciting 3-2 win over Whitchurch United.
Cup holders Alresford started the de-fence of the competition with a 4-1 win at home to Downton in the second round.
The Magpies then beat Hythe and Dibden 6-1 in round three and they then
won 2-0 at Blackfield and Langley in the quarter finals.
The semi finals brought a tough test against FA Vase finalists Sholing but Alresford won the game 2-0.
Alresford currently sit at the top of the Wessex Premier Division and with both the Rams and the Magpies passing the 100 league goal mark this season, the final should be an entertaining contest be-tween two sides who like to play football.
The Magpies have been rocked by the news that their successful management duo of Tim Cole and Danny Robinson are to move to Winchester City next season.
The way news of the departure has leaked out to the players before the end of the season has caused some unrest within the club as they prepared for the final few weeks of the season.
A coach for Petersfield supporters may be run to the final – check the official website for full details of timings and costs for coach travel.

TODAY’S visitors
ROYAL Navy sides have played a part in local football since the early 1900s and the Hampshire FA records are sprinkled with famous names such as HMS Victory, The Royal Navy Depot and HMS Fisgard.
Portsmouth Royal Navy FC was formed in 1962 by Dennis Probee with the intention of providing competitive football at the highest level possible to bridge the gap between the United Ser-vices midweek league and the full Royal Representative Side.
The club is affiliated to the Royal Navy Football Association.
PRNFC played in the Hampshire League from its formation until 1985-86 when the club became one of the 17 founder members of the Wessex League.
At that time the famous Victory Sta-dium at Pitt Street was closed and the club relocated to the present Burnaby Road ground.
This complex has gradually developed and now boasts the finest non-profes-sional facilities in the area, including a 500 seated covered stand, two floodlit astroturf pitches, electronic scoreboard and a new clubhouse.
New changing facilities were con-structed under the main stand during the 1995-96 season.
During the 1997-98 season, PRNFC Reserves entered the Jewson Wessex Combination League and finished in a very creditable fourth position.
Portsmouth Royal Navy FC’s most successful season in the Jewson Wes-sex League was 1996-97 when the club achieved its highest ever league position of tenth.
The club has twice reached the semi final stage of the Jewson Wessex League
Cup. In 1994-95 they lost by a single goal to AFC Lymington and then again in 1995-96, this time to Wimborne Town.
During the club’s stay in the Hamp-shire League several changes were made, with the introduction of a youth section during 2001-02 one of the major changes.
During season 2003-04 the club further cemented the youth section with the introduction of Meon Milton BFC, which is one of the largest youth clubs in the Portsmouth area, as a feeder club to Portsmouth Royal Navy FC.
The Hampshire Premier League proved to be a very competitive league for Portsmouth Royal Navy FC with their best finish being sixth in season 2003-04.
Also that season, Portsmouth Royal Navy achieved a very creditable quarter final place in the prestigious Hampshire Senior Cup.
With the restructuring in the National League System coming to fruition at the start of season 2004-05, with one of the outcomes being the demise of the Hampshire League, Portsmouth Royal Navy were selected back into the Wessex League.
With other changes occurring within the Armed Services, the club’s name was changed to United Services Portsmouth FC, in the hope they can attract more personnel from the Army and the Royal Air Force who will now be based in the Portsmouth area.
Since then the club have enjoyed mainly mid-table finishes in the second tier of the Wessex League,
Their best season to date was a fifth place finish in Division 1 during the 2010-11 season.
Navy sides have played part in county football since 1900s

New Milton Town 2Petersfield Town 4
A STUNNING second half performance kept Petersfield’s promotion bid on track in Wessex Division 1.
The turning point in the game proved to be the introduction of substitute Mike Asare at the start of the second half.
His pace and ability gave Petersfield the extra cutting edge they needed.
Just when it looked like Petersfield had control of the game Jack Kabba punished them with his pace.
On 35 minutes the ball was flicked on in midfield and Kabba raced clear and although new Rams keeper Tony Harrop got a hand to his low shot, he couldn’t stop it from rolling in.
The Rams drew level after only a minute of the second half.
Will Essai hung up his cross from the right to the penalty spot to allow Tambling to run in and thump his header past the keeper.
On 54 minutes it was 2-1 when Asare cut in from the left wing and rode three challenges but he was cut down by the fourth.
Essai sent the keeper the wrong way with his penalty.
Two goals in four minutes ensured the Rams returned home with all three points.
On 77 minutes Essai again had the ball on the right and his pin-point cross was headed home by Steve Cammack.
On 81 minutes the ball was worked from midfield up to Tambling, who drib-bled past three home defenders before picking his spot in the top corner of the net with a curling strike from the edge of the penalty area.
In injury time, Kabba was again al-
lowed to break clear of the defence and he rolled his shot past Harrop with what was the last kick of the game.
East Cowes Vics 0 Petersfield Town 3
IT WASN’T the greatest of spectacles but Petersfield did what they had to do to pick up another three points.
The first half was a frustrating one for the visitors as they were unable to get the breakthrough they were looking for.
The Rams eventually took the lead on 51 minutes when they broke clear from the hald way line and the ball was played up to Robbie Tambling, who took the ball round the keeper and shot home from a tight angle.
Petersfield doubled their lead on 70 minutes when Steve Cammack burst through in the penalty area only to be brought down by the keeper.
Will Essai made no mistake with his spot kick.
The Rams got their third with five minutes remaining when Essai played the ball through for Tambling, who rounded the keeper before scoring.
Asare’s introduction sparks Petersfield goalscoring form

RETRO rams
EVERY programme this season will fea-ture a story from the files of the Peters-field Post – Petersfield Town FC’s official media partner.
Today we go back to May 1982 and look at the report which details the last time Petersfield won a promotion on the pitch, as opposed to going up thanks to admin change to a league.
A 3-0 win at Love Lane over Cowes Sports secured the Hampshire League Division 2 title, in what was the club’s best ever season at the time.
The game was held up for 25 minutes as the Islanders struggled with the tim-ings of their ferry crossing.
They had to start the game with only nine players and Petersfield took full advantage of the situation.
Turrell got the first goal with a neat flick-on and Kevin Dennis put the home side 2-0 up after half an hour with a header from close range.
Turrell then got his second of the game from the penalty spot and when news came through that Liss had pre-vented Totton Reserves from winning, the promotion celebrations could begin.
Petersfield team: Demerell, S Mc-Cartney, Bentley, Marshall, Steel, Dennis, Turrell, Pain, Sykes, Goater, O McCart-ney. Sub: Murray.
Hayling United 0Petersfield Town 6
PETERSFIELD kept their Wessex Division 1 promotion bid on track with a comfortable win at bottom side Hayling United.
The poor playing surface and gusty wind made it difficult for either side to play any flowing football.
Will Essai and Andy Todd went close for the Rams in the opening stages.
Hayling could have gone in front on 36 minutes when a cross into the box was not cleared and Lee Bessey’s shot hit the post.
However, Petersfield took the lead two minutes later when a free kick from the half way line was floated into the penalty area, Hayling keeper Luke Eaton dropped the ball and Todd picked up the loose ball and tapped it into the net.
The Rams doubled their lead two minutes before half time when Robbie Tambling was put through, he took the ball round the keeper and tapped it into the net.
There was little goalmouth action to speak of in the second half until Peters-field made it 3-0 on 70 minutes.
A quick throw-in found Todd, who avoided some desperate tackling before curling his shot past the keeper and into the far corner of the net.
The fourth goal came on 75 minutes when Jack James’ pin-point cross from the right was headed home by Todd.
Two minutes later, James crossed again and the ball was headed back into the path of Joe Richardson, who hit home his shot at the second time of asking from eight yards out.
The final goal came on 82 min-
utes when a corner from the right was knocked on into the path of Steve Cam-mack, who rifled home his shot from close range.
Petersfield Town 3Amesbury Town 0
PETERSFIELD’S promotion bandwagon continued to gather pace with a comfort-able win over visitors Amesbury Town.
All of the Rams’ goals came in the first half and if they had really had their shoot-ing boots on, they could have racked up another big score after creating hatfuls of chances which they failed to convert in the second period.
Petersfield were in front with just five minutes on the clock when good play down the left wing saw the ball played in-side to Will Essai, who took it into the box before firing a low shot which beat keeper Paddy Crease at his near post.
The home side doubled their lead on 28 minutes when a cross from the right was only partially cleared but it popped up nicely for Steve Cammack, who shot home from close range.
On 39 minutes the ball was crossed to the near post where Cammack held it up. He then back heeled the ball into the path of Robbie Tambling, who hit it home from close range.
