There is a revolution going on in the denominational world.

There is a movement that is centered in “vineyard churches” that claim to break the “traditions” of the past and make “worship” the focus of the assemblies.

There is a revolution going on in the denominational world.

When this movement speaks of “worship” they mean specialized teams of singers and performers. Choirs, bands and plays make up most of what is done in these groups. Surveys are taken to find out what men desire.

There is a revolution going on in the denominational world.

I was listening to a denominational broadcast this week where an older preacher talked about the beginning of this movement and how it become the norm.

He saw that the songs shifted from an emphasis of the nature of God and approaching Him to an expression of how the “worshipper” felt!

Today most churches now have separate services for “traditional” and “contemporary” worship.

There is a revolution going on in the denominational world.

The house church movement imbibes this spirit also.

Worship is to be given to God!

Worship must be God centered, not man centered.

Worship is to be given to God!

Worship must be God centered, not man centered.

We need to be asking the question: “What does God really want?” The answer is: “Our Hearts!” (Micah 6:6-8)

Worship is to be given to God!

Micah 6:6-8 (NKJV)6 - With what shall I come before the Lord, And bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, With calves a year old? 7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, Ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

Worship is to be given to God!

8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

Worship is to be given to God!

We become like what we worship. (Psa 115:4-8; Psa 135:15-18)

Worship is to be given to God!

Psalm 115:4-8 (NKJV)4 - Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. 5

They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; 6 They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell;

Worship is to be given to God!

7 They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat. 8 Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.

Worship is to be given to God!

Psalm 135:15-18 (NKJV) - The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. 16 They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; 17 They have ears, but they do not hear; Nor is there any breath in their mouths. 18 Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.

Worship is to be given to God!

Sadly men are encouraged to “shop” for churches like you would for clothes or a restaurant. Our only goal is to seek God. (Heb 11:6)

Worship is to be given to God!

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Worship is to be given to God!

God has designed worship as the primary means of keeping our hearts right!

Worship is to be given to God!

God has designed worship as the primary means of keeping our hearts right!

Could we come to services and the end result be worse for us? (1 Cor 11:17)

Worship is to be given to God!

1 Corinthians 11:17 (NKJV)17Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse.

Worship is to be given to God!

1 Corinthians 11:27-31 (NKJV)27

Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

Worship is to be given to God!

29For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

Worship is to be given to God!

Occasionally I hear of a brother who had great Bible knowledge who fell into a web of sin. How did that happen? First look to his worship.

Worship is to be given to God!

We must have a worship that looks upon God and exposes our hearts! (Heb 4:12-13)

Worship is to be given to God!

Hebrews 4:12-13 (NKJV)12For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Worship is to be given to God!

What do you think of when approaching God in prayer? The Lord's supper? Singing? Bible Study? (Mt 15:8-9)

Worship is to be given to God!

Matthew 15:8-9 (NKJV) - ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

Worship is to be given to God!

Proper worship tests the heart! (1 Cor 14:24-25)

Worship is to be given to God!

1 Corinthians 14:24-25 (NKJV)24But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. 25And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.

Worship is to be given to God!

Many people try to stay busy and avoid their conscious. These people do not like to be alone with God! This is why a neglect of worship will lead to an indifferent hardness.

When we are with other Christians we are to sing to each other! When you see "one another" passages in the Bible you are seeing a "reciprocal pronoun" which indicates participation of everyone.

If there is a group of Christians who sing to one another from the heart for the worship of God then their actions are scriptural. Every Christian present should have an opportunity to sing.

“In such churches the ordained worship practiced for so many years now becomes a source of embarrassment and efforts begin to "jazz-up" their worship by incorporating things seen in denominations. Out goes the old traditional songs and in comes new "contemporary music," even with instrumental music many times.

Preaching and teaching is dull, so we bring in "drama." All of this is very pleasing to the carnal mind and entertaining. Before long each act is being applauded and often singing is accompanied with rhythmic hand-clapping. The "change agents" who are initiating such changes are not satisfied with the church as it has been through the ages.” (THE CONFORMED CHURCH OF CHRIST?, Richard Guill, Seek the Old Paths)
