• How do we use water on a day-to-day

basis?

• What  would our life be like without

water?

The Sun

The sun is needed

to power the

water cycle.

Evaporation

Evaporation occurs

when the sun heats

up water turns it into

vapor or steam. The

water vapor or steam

goes into the air.(DLTK, 2009)

Condensation

Water vapor in the

air gets cold and

changes back into

liquid, forming

clouds. (DLTK, 2009)

Precipitation

Precipitation

occurs when so

much water has

condensed that the

air cannot hold it

anymore. (DLTK, 2009)

(DLTK, 2009)

What is Precipitation?

Precipitation is:

Snow

Rain

Sleet

Hail

What happens to precipitation?

When the water leaves the clouds,

it collects in:RiversStreamsLakesOceans

When water ends up on land, it will

either soak into the earth and

become part of the “ground water”

that plants and animals use to drink

or it may run over the soil and

collect in the oceans, lakes or rivers

where the cycle starts all over

again.

•The Water Cycle Song

•to the tune of: “Clementine”

•To the tune of: “She’ll be coming

‘round the Mountain”

Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation on our minds They're all part of the Water Cycle and it happens all the time.

Something's missing, something's missing How I wonder what it could be

Oh it must be Accumulation Lakes and rivers, ponds and streams

Water travels in a cycle, yes it does Water travels in a cycle, yes it does

It goes up as evaporationForms clouds as condensation

Then comes down as precipitation, yes it does!

First, the Sun warms

ocean water causing it

to EVAPORATE.

What did we Learn?

Next, water vapor

CONDENSES to

form clouds.

What did we learn?

Next, the Clouds

become very heavy

before beginning to

PRECIPITATE.

What did we learn?

Lastly, precipitation

collects in rivers,

lakes, and oceans.
