The Star Academy Enoree Career Center

What Is The Academy?

What Is The Star Academy?

• The Star Academy is an Academic Acceleration Opportunity for students who may have been retained 1-2 years prior to the eighth grade to catch up with their peers.

How Are Students Selected?• 1. Students must be able to read at least on the 6th grade

level.• 2. Students must be able to function in a normal school

setting. They must be able to work alone or in small groups.• 3. Students must be at least 14 1/2 years old but not older

than 16 before August 15 of each year.• 4. Students must not have chronic discipline or attendance

concerns. • 5. Parents and students must attend an orientation and

interview session.• 6. Students grades, discipline, attendance records, and

standardize test scores are considered in the selection process.

• 7. Students and parents must be willing to sign the academic, discipline, and dress code contract.

Star Academy students are able to earn up to 8 units towards graduation in one year thus enabling the students to go from the 8th grade to the 10th grade.

This year the students are taking four 80 minute classes per semester. Lunch is catered each day.

All classes contain space for up to 20 students. Each classroom has 10 - 20 lap top and/or desk top computers containing the Synergistic or Pace Ware soft ware used by the teachers and students for instruction.

Courses Offered This Year – 1st Semester 1. English / Language Arts Skills – elective

course towards graduation- “does not count as an English credit.”

2. Math Tech Skills – elective course towards graduation- “does not count as a math credit.”

3. Biology 1-CP – counts as a required science unit towards graduation.

4. Strategies for Success – counts as an elective unit towards graduation.

Courses Offered This Year – 2nd Semester1. 9th grade English CP – required course towards graduation.

2. Algebra 1 CP – course counts towards required math for graduation.

3. Earth Science or Physical Science 1-CP – counts as a required science unit towards graduation.

4. Global Studies 1-CP – counts as a required history unit towards graduation.
