Term 1, Week 5, 2015
Dear Parents and Community Members… Tonight we are holding our ‘Meet the Teacher’
information sessions. During the sessions the P&C will be
hosting a BBQ (thank you P&C members). This is a great
opportunity for you to come to the school, meet the
teachers and find out about the day to day running of
your child/children’s classrooms. We look forward to
seeing you there.
Tomorrow some students will be travelling to
Brisbane to watch the Cricket World Cup match. These
students will need to be at school before 7:30am. They
are due to be back at school before 3pmThursday . I am
sure they will have a fantastic time.
Recently the Department of Education and
Communities reviewed the guidelines for applying for
exemptions. Family holidays are no longer an accepted
category for exemption from school attendance. Families
who need to travel outside the school vacation periods
for family holidays or other domestic circumstances eg
(bereavement) can apply for Extended Leave.
These absences will be counted towards your
child’s attendance data.
If travelling overseas you will need to provide a
copy of an itinerary or plane tickets.
To apply for Extended Leave please contact your
School’s Principal for the application form.

Congratulations to all the students who were elected by
their peers to represent their class.

SHPMPS P&C The P&C AGM is on next Tuesday the 3rd March 5.30pm in
the teachers staff room. All welcome to attend.
It’s a good time to join the P&C as you will probably not get a
position unless you really want one. Also there are still some
days that Vicki does not have any helpers in the Canteen. It
is a massive job for one person so if you can spare one day a
month or a few hours a month can you please contact Vicki.
Maybe grandparents or other family members of friends
would be able to offer their assistance. If we cannot get
any helpers we may have to reduce the days that the canteen
is open. Please consider if you can help at all. Thank you.

PSSA Soccer The Northern New England PSSA soccer trials for boys and girls will be held at our school this
Friday.
Some students attended training sessions in week 2 of this term and a team was selected last week.
The trials will take place on the primary soccer oval at our school commencing at 10:15am after the
school SRC Induction Assembly. The players will be able to change into their soccer clothes at 10am.
Although we will be having a shorter break for recess and lunch, the students are still able to
purchase food and drinks from the canteen. If a soccer player is ordering their lunch, please label the
lunch bag clearly with "SOCCER" so the order is not sent up to your classroom.
The players are to wear their normal sports uniform and will be provided with a shirt, shorts and
socks at 10am, students are to bring along a water bottle, shin pads and soccer boots. The school does have
some donated boots that students can borrow. We also have school shin pads.
Parents and family members are able to attend the trials as spectators, but we ask that you sign in
and out at the front office in case of an emergency.
The boys team includes; Ralph Thomson, Fletcher Koch, Jakeb Gibbins, Jamie Benstead, Tyran
Petrie, Eric Richards, Jimi Henry, Luke Bates, Will Holley, Braith Clark, Tobi Lieberman, Adam Thomas
and Kori Eaton.
The girls team includes; Bonnie Zappa, Abbey Holley, Georgie Duroux, Terri-Ann Lane, Zoe Nalder,
Tatyana Cook, Katie Eaton, Jara Duroux, Melanie McGarry, Mikayla Cox, Angela Moore, Raya Woodbridge
and Mariah McGrady.
The trials will conclude by 1:45pm and the students will change back into their sports clothes and
return to their normal classes for the remainder of the day.
Zone Swimming On February 13, 32 swimmers went to the Zone Swimming carnival in Glen Innes. From the 32 swimmers
who competed, 19 of them made it to the Regional level in Armidale. Sir Henry Parkes won the overall
trophy where there were five schools competing for the trophy. Our school had many students who
received ribbons and many other students received runner up medallions and champion trophies.
Miss Slobin also got wet as an unfortunate little girl got her finger stuck in the lane rope and Miss Slobin
had
to assist her to get out of the pool.
We are looking forward to representing Northern New England on Tuesday, March 3.
