Introduction to Using Coordinates
The next several slides give you an example to show you how coordinates can be used in real life. This will also be a quick review if it’s been a while since you studied coordinates.

Activity with your family:
Using graph paper, draw a graphof the ordered pairs with the horizontalaxis as the time-of-day, and the verticalaxis as the temperature. Use incrementsof one for the horizontal axis andincrements of two for the vertical axis.

To label point (10,6), first note that the ten stands for time of day. To find the point start counting from 0, ten spaces to the right. Then, count up (positive) the equivalent of six which is three spaces up (counting by twos) for the temperature. Label that point A.
• Can you find (3,-3) and label it B?
