The perfect connection for a perfect performanceThe FLUDEX ARPEX combination for a soft starting torque now comes in a standardized series
2
Produced entirely in house, the tried and tested combi- nation is now available in six versionsAs the world’s largest manufacturer of gear units and couplings, the connection between fluid and pin couplings of all designs has been a matter of course for Siemens for decades. Our customers have also successfully combined FLUDEX® fluid couplings and ARPEX® torsionally rigid all-steel couplings for many years. We have now created our own standardized range comprising six versions of this tried and tested combination.
We will gladly offer individual consultations to help you benefit from our experience and inter- disciplinary expertise in almost all sectors of industry and primary production. Siemens offers you outstanding value for money from the drive technology specialist plus consistent quality and maximum availability from a highly flexible solution.

Flexible coupling synthesis from a single source
For years, FLUDEX ARPEX coupling combinations have enjoyed outstanding success as starting aids and for the acceleration of large masses. They optimally limit the starting and maximum torque in the drive train. Their hydrodynamic functional principle enables machines to start up softly without jolting, so you do not need an oversized motor.
The entire FLUDEX ARPEX series is produced in house and is based on two standardized coupling ranges that enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide.
By combining the two types of coupling, outstanding shock damping and vibration isolation properties are twinned with the ability to minimize reaction forces and compensate for large shaft misalignments. The coupling combination also provides optimum overload protection.
FLUDEX ARPEX combinations are the perfect solutions for applications with high temperature requirements. They can be used in a greater temperature range than elasto-meric flexible couplings and are practically wear-resistant and maintenance-free as well as radially mountable. This eliminates any need to change the position of the motor and/or gear unit. These couplings offer you maximum flexibility.
Why choose the FLUDEX ARPEX series?
•All coupling parts come from a single source
•Independent advice from experienced drive experts and a comprehensive range of couplings
•Outstanding value for money
•Quick availability of the coupling combination worldwide
Key features of the FLUDEX ARPEX series:
•Motor assistance during start-up
•Soft, jolt-free starting of machines
•More even distribution of coupling masses on the shafts to be connected
•Excellent torsional vibration isolation and shock damping
•Overload protection
•Suitable for use across a large temperature range
•Compensation of radial, axial and angular shaft misalignments
•Radially removable
•Practically wear-resistant and maintenance-free
•Reduction of reaction forces
4
Selecting the FLUDEX size
The FLUDEX size is determined based on the output to be transmitted in comparison with the rated outputs listed in the tables over the page. No operational or additional safety factors need be taken into consideration.
The rated outputs specified in the tables generally pre-suppose the coupling’s maximum permissible fill level (80% to 85%) and, due to operating slip, lead to an increase in the coupling temperature of approximately 50° C relative to the ambient (cooling air) temperature. With lower outputs, the increase in the coupling tempera-ture will be proportionally lower. If an absolute tempera-ture (ambient temperature + coupling temperature increase) of > 85° C is to be expected for the coupling’s continuous operation, the coupling must be fitted with FPM seals and 160° C fusible safety plugs.

Three features safeguard the reliability of couplings in the FLUDEX ARPEX series. Thanks to the electronic operating control (EOC) system, the couplings’ operating status can be monitored without contact or maintenance. Meanwhile, a thermal operating control function and fusible safety plugs in the coupling housing provide additional protection against overheating and excess pressure.
