I am delighted to share Sentara Enterprises’ (SE) first Annual Nursing Report. Sentara
Enterprises is comprised of five (5) business lines: Home Health, Hospice, Home
Infusion, Specialty Pharmacy and Medical Transport. Throughout all of these
business lines, nursing provides tremendous care to our Sentara patients.
As of this writing, SE employs 369 nurses. They predominantly work in Home
Health, Hospice, and Home Infusion. With roots from the 1880’s, the type of
care provided to patients in home settings requires creativity, skill, and
immense critical thinking. Nurses are faced with complex patient needs,
challenging family dynamics, and an ever changing regulatory
environment – these are not easy jobs! Weather, traffic patterns, and
patient choice play into each and every day’s scheduling of patient
appointments.
Nurses assist in medical transports of critical patients on intra-aortic
balloon pumps from one hospital to another. Nurses are patient advocates
at Proprium, our specialty pharmacy, assisting patients with obtaining
affordable medications that are life saving for significant chronic diseases.
They provide education regarding the importance of medication adherence
and symptom management.
This past year, SE nurses have assisted hospitals in reducing hospital readmissions through
the use of best practice protocols for medication management, CLABSI prevention, wound
management, and foley care aimed at CAUTI prevention.
SE is comprised of 50% BSN nurses and we continue the journey to achieving 80% BSN RN’s
by 2020. Our LPNs assist in the provision of care to our patients under the direction of our RNs
and are crucial to our teams!
Thank you for your passion of nursing! Thank you for your hard work and ensuring that the
patient’s in your communities receive the compassionate and professional care that supports
Sentara’s mission of Improving Health Everyday!
