Congratulations to our First Holy Communicants on receiving the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist on April 30, 2016 and May 1, 2016
A special “Thank You” to our Catechists and Assistants who
helped guide and prepare the students for First Holy Eucharist
“Do This In Memory of Me”
T his weekend the Parish Family of St. Christopher and St. Sylvia celebrated First Holy Communion for our second graders. On Sunday, at the 10:30 A.M. Mass, Eva Eberhard and Olivia Smith, who are in the upper classes, will receive their First Holy Communion. These are memorable times not only for the communicants and their
families, but also for our entire parish family.
Over 2,000 years ago Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and shared it with His disciples. When the Last Supper was ended, He took the cup that was filled with wine and again gave thanks and shared it with His disciples. His command was to “Do This In Memory Of Me.” Every time Fr. Xavier and I approach the altar, we make present what happened 2,000 years in that little upper room in Jerusalem. The joy of our priesthood is made complete when we share the Body and Blood of Christ most, especially at First Communion.
First Communions are a memorable event that every priest enjoys celebrating. To see the faces of our children beam with joy makes it all the more special. Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” As we prepare for Pentecost, let us remember all the good that God has blessed us with this past year. Let us remember the hard work and dedication of our wonderful Coordinator of Religious Education, Ellen Farina, and her faithful catechists. Thank you so much for leading our children by your own example and faithfulness!
