EU definition of Open Innovation
The basic premise of Open Innovation is to introduce more
actors in the innovation process so that knowledge can
circulate more freely and be transformed into products and
services that create new markets, fostering a stronger
culture of entrepreneurship.

Climate-KIC Nordic hosted by DTU
Nordic part of Climate-KIC launched in April, 2014
Part of the world’s largest Climate PPP with more than 250 partners
Financed mostly by the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT)
Climate-KIC partners have jointly delivered €1.8b climate action since 2010

Framework for Accelerating and Promoting Innovation
• Climate-KIC helps to bring together triple-helix partners on major climate
mitigation and adaptation projects
• Climate-KIC, through its instruments
• provides financing
• facilitates ideation and bottom-up ideas
• helps projects towards maturing
• and promotes challenges aiming at end-user needs and market development.
• Results: CKIC leverages partner consortia, start-ups and other actors, into a
unique network that can create scale on a pan-European level.

Mobilizing students for creating climate impact
Master Programme
• The EIT Master’s Label Programme adds extra value to selected master degree programmes at Climate-KIC’s partner universities.
• Students participate in the Journey, attend seminars, go on mobility, take complimentary courses and write a thesis with a climate change and entrepreneurship topic.
The Journey
• The Journey is a 5 week summer school traveling across Europe.
• It aims at fostering entrepreneurial thinking among students and future entrepreneurs.
• DTU and other Nordic university partners have hosted 3 Journeys a year for the past 3 years .

Climathon –city challenges
• Climathon is a global 24-hour climate change event which takes place simultaneously in major cities around the world once a year.

Climate-KIC
• is a strategic platform for DTU
• to work long term
• with the core areas of innovation and entrepreneurship
• for students, researchers and companies originating from DTU
• complementing the many activities that we have already
• in a key area for DTU – sustainability
By hosting the Nordic CLC and engaging in decision bodies of Climate-KIC, we contribute to setting priorities and implementingactivities
