PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS This past weekend, elections for Pastoral Coun-cil were held. The four (4) incumbents were re-elected to a second term. They are MaryCay Freiberg, Paul Gundrum, Bob Hogan, and Matt Rieck. Congratulations to all of them. A special thank you goes out to those who accepted their nomination: Cheryl Bailey, Jack Flannick, and Joan Lancour. May our parish continue to be blessed with those who wish to give of their time and talent to help our parish grow and flourish.
CONFIRMATION Please keep our Confirmation candidates in prayer as they will be con-firmed this Wednesday, May 30th by Bishop Jeffrey R. Haines. We pray the Holy Spirit fills the hearts of these confirmands with heavenly bless-ings - the desire to seek God, the faith to follow Him, and the eagerness to know Him more fully each day. Also a big thank you to our parents, the first teachers of the Christian faith to your children, and to all family mem-bers and catechists who help pass the Catholic faith on to the next genera-tion. Keep up the good work.
GRADUATION This coming Thursday, May 31st, twelve (12) students will be graduating from our parish school. These students will be going to six (6) different high schools. Let us pray for them and for all of our graduates that as they spread out their “eagle wings” they will always be great examples of Christ’s love in the world.
On behalf of the parish staff this Memorial Day weekend, I wish you all many bless-ings, relaxing time with family and friends, & safe travels.

I used to work with a colleague who said, during the long winter months, “Blink your eyes and it will be June!” Truer words were never spoken. It is tough to believe that Memorial Day is here, and graduation and the end of our school year will follow soon after. As we approach our summer break, I’d like to thank all of our supportive parishioners. Our school is a close knit community; a safe place for our students to grow, both academically and spiritually. We are blessed, in so many ways. Please continue to keep us in your prayers throughout the summer months. Just as the school year passes quickly, the restful summer will fly by. Our teachers will be spending at least part of their time off studying and preparing for the upcoming year. We eagerly face the challenges of the
upcoming school year.
Happy Memorial Day! Mary Laidlaw Otto, Principal

Why do Catholics make the Sign of the Cross? In the second century when this practice began, it was common to honor a ruler with a gesture of respect.
Whether bowing down on one knee or touching the forehead, such gestures were ritual ways to show humility before a person of great power.
The Sign of the Cross became one such devotion to the Holy Trinity, and acted as a sign of recognition between early Christians who were sometime forced to worship in secret. Now a prayer in itself, each time we make the Sign of the Cross we express respect for God and request his blessings for ourselves.

Memorial Day Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, today we honor the memory of those men and women who gave their all in the cause of freedom. They worked, fought and died for the heritage of freedom, brother-hood and honor that they have passed on to us.
Help us to recall that you gave up your life for the true freedom of all hu-man beings. Teach us the meaning of peace and the real battle that must take place in ourselves before it will be won in families and nations. Make us keep your memory in our celebration of Communion and pray for the peace and freedom of the whole world. Amen
Mass will be offered on Monday, May 25th at 8:00am. All parishioners and friends are encouraged to join us.
