As the congregation is now aware paper products cannot be purchased with a
Michigan Bridge Card Because of the generosity of this church toilet paper
paper toweling Kleenexes and napkins have been distributed the first Monday

guests that walk through our doors and they share their stores we are learning
more and more about the day to day struggles they face to make ends meet As
a result we are excited to share another opportunity to help our friends in
need Since Bridge Cards also prohibit the purchase of cleaning supplies we
would like help in this area The plan is to distribute two different cleaning items
each month along with the paper products Starting in September we are asking
for donations of Comet or Soft Scrub and Toilet Bowl Cleaner A box will be set
up in Fellowship Hall by the box for the Paper Products As always thank you to

Addiction Does Not Discriminate
I was at Pastor Johnrsquos Small Group that meets at
51 North when I was saddened to learn of Robin
Williams passing As word of this tragic shocking
loss made its way around the group that were in
attendance many were talking about how
someone so gifted so talented and so on top of the
world could make the decision that ending his life
was better than living it As the days unfolded
news reports of his struggles with addiction and
depression were disclosed
While it is no secret that addiction and depression often go hand in hand it was
difficult to process how a man with the financial means to seek out the best help
possible could not find the treatment that would save him from himself In the
days following I could not help but think about the devastating grief that his
family and friends were facing Robin Williams stated that he had been dealing
with addiction since the 80rsquos and had enjoyed sobriety for long lengths of time
It was made very clear that Robin Williams suffered from inner demons but as
many know all too well those that loved him suffered as well as they journeyed
through life together
The family and friends of someone with an addiction problem are like collateral
damage They become the unintended victims of the addiction The attempts to
help the addict is one described as frustrating lonely and exhausting Many
people with a loved one with an addiction retreat inwards put walls up and often
suffer with depression themselves
In Galatians 62 we are called upon to ldquoBear one anotherrsquos burdens and therefore
fulfill the law of Christrdquo Helping the families and friends that love someone
with any kind of an addiction is something as Christians God is asking of us
Listening to their stories providing love and care without judgment is essential
The illness of addiction reaches far and wide without discriminating
While the loss of Robin Williams is painful it continues to serve as a reminder
that much work is needed to help those that are touched by addiction As such
plans continue moving forward to begin an Addiction Support Ministry here at
LOUMC This ministry is intended to help those with a loved one that suffers
from any type of an addiction If you are interested in being a part of this new
ministry please contact Lisa Goyette at 248693-6201 ext 202

Stephen Ministry Training
LOUMC is blessed to have 22 gifted and caring Stephen
Ministers that have stepped forward to help support men
and women that are going through a difficult time This
past spring we welcomed Doug Bastian Jayme Daenzer
Gail Vetrainno and Jeff Weaver to the group Within a short time two of these
newly commissioned Stephen Ministers were assigned care receivers What
this shows us is that there is ALWAYS a need to help someone that is hurting
While we continually give thanks for these 22 men and women that serve the
only thing that could be better is to have 22 MORE people that would like to
train Wow imagine the hearts that could be touched and the healing that
could occur
If anyone has ever considered becoming a Stephen Minister I ask that you step
forward and be a part of truly transforming ministry
Training is only 50 hrs and is set to begin in Oct 2014 Please know that there
is flexibility available on running classes to support the needs of those that
want to participate If you are interested please contact Lisa Goyette at

While we continually give thanks for these 22 men and women that serve the
only thing that could be better is to have 22 MORE people that would like to
train Wow imagine the hearts that could be touched and the healing that
could occur
If anyone has ever considered becoming a Stephen Minister I ask that you step
forward and be a part of truly transforming ministry

is flexibility available on running classes to support the needs of those that

Spotlight on Staff ndash Kris Wilson
In this monthrsquos issue of the
LINK we are featuring Kris
Wilson LOUMCrsquos own
wedding coordinator
Krisrsquo dream has always been to
become a wedding planner but
since that job is not really
common in the mid-west and
moving to a more eccentric
place (like California where
they have wedding planers)
wasnrsquot an option the opening
of the wedding coordinator
position here at LOUMC last
year was a welcoming opportunity
Kris enjoys being part of the best day in the life of the bride and groom loves
getting everything planned and coordinated while also keeping the wedding
party calm and relaxed so that they can enjoy their wedding at our church
The Wilson family has been calling LOUMC their church home since 2007
While you probably have seen Krisrsquo husband Chris ushering on Sunday
mornings Kris herself has volunteered more behind the scenes for various
occasions
Speaking of ldquohomerdquo Kris calls herself a true ldquohome buddyrdquo ndash family means
everything to her
Even though she loves being at home with her husband and her children her
bucket list does have some places she would like to visit for example Paris
France Hawaii and going on an Alaskan cruise
Chris and Kris (which is short for Kristyn) have been married for 23 years and
have two children Courtney who is a junior at Michigan State and Grant who
will soon start his second year at Oakland University
Kris is a real Michigan girl She grew up in Birmingham
and moved to Lake Orion after getting married to Chris
Besides coordinating weddings here at LOUMC Kris
works for AVON as a rep and unit leader She has been
doing this for 10 years now Her hobbies are needlepoint
sewing knitting and gardening
Thank you Kris for making weddings a beautiful and memorable event here
at LOUMC
