Vladimir Lenin led the Russian Revolution.

Russians did not like Tsar Nicholas II.

Communists led a revolution against the Tsar.

Lenin led the new Soviet Union.

Stalin took over after Lenin’s death.

Stalin held all the power centrally.

Stalin purged his enemies.

The Soviet Union in 1939 felt

secure.

Japan

The Meiji Restoration modernized Japan.

Japan had a feudal culture.

Commodore Perry’s Black Ships opened Japan.

Japan became fully

industrialized within forty

years.

Japan became an Imperial Power.

Japan built up its military might.

Japan won a war against Russia.

Japan annexed Korea.

Japan wanted to expand.

The Japanese took over Manchuria.

Japan invaded China in 1937.

Japan in 1939 was growing and wanting

more.

Germany

The Weimar Republic failed.

The Treaty of

Versailles burdened

the German

economy.

Germany experienced hyperinflation.

The government began to lose legitimacy.

Fascism came to Germany.

Fascism is nationalistic dictatorship.

Hitler was elected into

power.

Hitler reinvigorated the economy.

Germany returned to Great Power status.

Germany remilitarized.

Germany expanded its territory.

Germany in 1939 was rapidly expanding.
