According to Dictionary.com conflict means:

to come into collision or disagreement; be contradictory, at variance,

or in opposition; clash:

Positive Outcomes from Conflict

Conflict can often lead to the best results.

Conflict can provide opportunities.

Conflict challenges us to think harder, to be more creative, and to develop greater understanding

Negative Outcomes from Conflict

Can result in the breakdown of a club/organization

When unaddressed conflict occurs in an organization it can reduce morale,

hamper performance, increase absenteeism.

It can lead to increased stress among club members, decreased productivity and at worst, aggression or violence.

There are lots of different conflict resolution models, but most of them have the following five elements:

Stay calm and deal with the emotions first

State what is bothering you in a respectful and specific way

Listen to the other person’s perspective for complete understanding

Problem solving – look for root causes and win-win solutions

Agree on actions to be taken, and making mutual commitments
