Many, many thanks for the surprise reception and gifts that you provided for the celebration of my 40th
anniversary of ordination on May 5! I am both awed and humbled by your kindness and generosity. I am truly grateful for
the privilege of serving as your bridge pastor. I feel truly blessed by God for the opportunity to spend my 39th year of
ordination with you at St. Peter’s. I echo the words of St. Paul who wrote to the church at Philippi, “I thank my God every
time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the
gospel from the first day until now.” Philippians 1:3
For those of you who have asked, I began to feel the call to ordained ministry as a child, growing up at Holy Spirit
Lutheran Church, Secane (Delaware County), Pennsylvania. The pastors at that time provided positive role models for me
as preachers, teachers, and caregivers. Encouraged by my family and by my experiences in Luther League (youth group),
campus ministry, and summer camp counseling, I decided to pursue the possibility of ordination. The relationships that I
developed at Upsala College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia deepened my faith and my
understanding of God’s grace and love.
Approved for ordination by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the then Lutheran Church in America (LCA),
now the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), I was ordained by Bishop William Janson on June 3, 1979, at
Messiah Lutheran Church at “Broad and the Boulevard” in Philadelphia. Ten of us were ordained in a large service on that
date at a time when the synod ordained all of those approved for ordination at once.
I suppose that the point of this journey down “memory lane” is that none of us grows in faith in isolation from
others. I certainly didn’t. Just as others are part of our story of faith, so we are part of others’ stories of faith. God calls us
to nourish and support each other along the way. That is how God loves and cares for us. As I celebrate the 40th years of
my ordination, I am glad that God has given me the opportunity over the past year to walk with you.
Rejoicing in those who confirmed their faith on May 19 …
Speaking of journeys of faith, we rejoice with Kate Flagler, Kiara Isabella, Eve Martin, and Steven Silva who
confirmed their faith at the later worship service on May 19. I am thankful for the opportunity to have served as their
teacher over the past year. I offer special thanks to Ken Shanks for his support and participation in the confirmation
program and to Beth Flagler who stepped in as a parental support when Ken could not be there. God’s blessings to all!
Special thanks to St. Peter’s Synod Assembly Voting Members …
I am also deeply grateful to Kim Jerasa, Chris Park, and Phil Tackett who served as St. Peter’s voting members at
the annual Synod Assembly on May 3 and 4 at Franconia Mennonite Church in Telford. This was the first assembly over
which Bishop Patricia Davenport presided. (She was elected bishop at the assembly in 2018.) A report on the Synod
Assembly and more information on synod activities may be found at ministrylink.org.

Church Lawn Tractor For over 25 years our John Deere 420 tractor has provided thousands of hours of service for St. Peter’s. The time
to consider retiring this fine machine is approaching. There is a fair chance that we can get another season or two out of
it. However, we are nearing the point where maintenance costs will no longer be justifiable. We mow slightly more than six
acres of grass using volunteers. It takes approximately 6 man-hours weekly to keep the lawn cut and maintained,
sometimes more than that in the spring. The cost to hire a lawn service is prohibitive. In round numbers, the cost of a lawn
service would equate to buying a new tractor every 3 or 4 years. Please help us in raising enough funds to purchase a
replacement tractor.
Thanks Dear Pastor Miller and my church family: Thank you, Pastor for all your visits and Communion. To all for your
prayers, cards, and visits, and for all the meals you made. Thank you all for taking us for doctor’s appoints, etc. Love and prayers, Bill & Julie Detweiler.
A round of applause and a big “thank you” to all who donated to the Kitchen Supplies Drive. Due to your generosity the kitchen at St. Peter’s is well stocked for future events. Blessings, The Kitchen Members

Horsin' Around 4-H Horse Club
Want to learn more about horses? This is the club for you. You don't need to own a horse or even ride a horse to
join us! We learn all about horses: from the care of horses, different characteristics of breeds, different types of feed, horse colors, different types of tack, and diseases of horses; these are just some of things we learn about at each meeting.
We welcome any kid interested in learning more about horses. We do a variety of community service projects and complete a horse project book.
The only requirements for joining is to have fun together learning about horses! We have lots of different opportunities available from the rider to the non-rider. We do horse clinics, participate in
shows, and have a Horse Bowl and hippology team (kids compete with a buzzer to answer knowledge-based questions about horses).
Want to meet a horse loving friend like yourself? Join us the 3rd Sunday of each month at St.Peter’s Lutheran Church. For more info contact horsinaroundbucks4h@ gmail. 4-H is for kids 8-18 years old but parents are welcome to attend as well!

Members range in age from 8-18 years old. Having your own reptile is not a necessity. Many members participate in the August Grange Fair show with the reptiles they do own. We do nature walks and native species studies, community service projects and have a lot of fun.
We meet at St..Peter’s Lutheran Church on the 2nd Sunday monthly. If interested in more information or joining contact scalestailsbc4h@gmail.com.
