LEADERSHIP IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MODELS
OR ENERGY NETWORKGeneral Objectives of the Inititative- To promote the accelerated development of RENEWABLE ENERGIES in the
ORs by means of the active coordination among competent PublicAdministration Bodies, Technology Centers and Universities of thedifferent Regions
- Benefits for the OMRs:- Activation of the Economy, directly in the energy sector (vulnerability reduction, costs savings,
etc.), as well as indirectly (favouring other sectors, e.g. tourism)- Jobs creation (particularly young and qualified employment)- Reinforcement of the technological capabilities of these regions
- To deploy the potential of ORs as natural laboratories of innovative (andsustainable) energy technologies that can serve as models for the wholeworld (impact and replicability)
- Benefits for EUROPE:- Consolidation of the world leadership of EUROPE in the Renewable Energies sector, with the
subsequent benefits at different levels (reduction of energy dependence and environmentalimprovements, reinforcement of the industry and its export capability (technology transfer to othercountries, especially transboundary less developed ones), etc.)
- Contribution to the implementation of recommendations expressed in EU Protocols referring tothe vision of OMRs as natural laboratories and, in particular: COM (2008) 642 final (October 17th2008), COM(2012) final (june 26th 2012) and Study About The Situation of OMRs In The SingleMarket (P. Solbes, Oct. 2011)
OR Energy Network
1. To promote the exchange of experiencies among the different ORs (both at the technologicalas well as at the administrative levels) and to detect opportunities that European Institutionsput at the disposal for the development of Renewable Energies in these regions
2. To foster economic actitivies in the ORs (in particular: (young) employment creation),through the attraction of investment and the settlement of (technological) companies,associated to the industrial development of the Renewable Energy sector
3. To reduce current OR energy dependece by means of accelerating the development andimplementation of Renewable Energy Systems through coordinated actions between thedifferent OMRs, according to the last EU regulations concerning OMRs
4. To contribute to deploy Europe’s strategic vision (ORs: natural laboratories) by means ofthe implementation of lighthouse projects, which can be extrapolated to other regions (evenoutside the european geographical area), and promoting the role of OMRs as instrument fortechnology transfer of European (clean) energy technology to neighbouring less developedcountries
5. To contribute to the EU effort to increase R&D investment levels in the field ofRENEWABLE ENERGIES in ORs, and to foster Technological Innovation at all levels in orderto strengthen OMRs’ economy
6. To optimize the channelling of funds to ORs in sectors related to the new energy paradigm(H2020 and regional programs)
