In western europe the churches were only

catholic churches . The church was very powerfull it had its own

taxes,lands,governed… Heretics were burned to death at the stake

The Pope : Was the head of the catholic church, he ruled from Rome, in Italy. People thought that was God on Earth.

Church’s lands → Were divided into dioceses

ruled by a bishop Dioceses → Was made up of a group of

parishes. Archbishops → The most powerigfull bishops.

They sat on the king council and also played a role in the govermment.

Their life was very hard, they were poor . A

priest had glebe. Performed baptisms. Collected a tax to give to the church. Taught Latin and bible storys to local boys.

Thousands of cathedrals abbey were build in Europe in the 12th Century. They were constructed in Gothic style.

Buttresses enabled the walls to be thinner and taller.

Walls were pierced with tall windows. Interiors contained statues, carvings and

panels that toulds stories of the Bibles. The windows were filled with stained glass,

through which light streamed in dazzling
