Transcript of The Artist Bloc - Alumni Show 2014

“Where Creative Minds Meet”

The 2014 NC A&T SU Alumni Exhibition

Greetings and welcome, This catalogue documents the works of numerous artists whom were once pupils of the visual arts program at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Each piece is from an artist that is one, or many, of the following: Alumnus Professor Supporter The exhibition was orchestrated by Darlene J. McClinton, and several trusted, and close, friends of hers, who are also alumni of the program and school. The board of executives and officers have planned an exhibition each year, with the expectation to having a bigger pool of participation each time. One of the biggest goals this organization has is to further encourage, and support, A&T students most dedicated to their work.

This goal is achieved by providing scholarships for the chosen student who applied. The scholarship is funded by the entry fees each artists submits for the show, ranging from $40-$80 per person. The money is then calculated, and then divided amongst the chosen applicants deserving of the scholarship. This can go towards funding the student(s)’s application fees to graduate schools or funding more art supplies for their projects or other works. Usually the organization holds this annual exhibition in the Dudley Building on A&T’s Campus, however, this year, they decided to host the show at a local arts store in the area, The Artist Bloc.

The Artist Bloc, where creative minds meet, is a newly opened arts venue with an art supply retail, a coffee shop, and a gallery. The owners, as former staff or alumni of the program, were more than happy to provided the gallery space portion of the venue to the organization for the exhibition. The space has been open to the public since August 18, 2014 and since then, has taken huge leaps of growths by providing events both monthly and weekly; advertising in the “News and Record” as well as “We are Greensboro”; and selling the artwork and food. Hosting this exhibition is one of many mile stones the Bloc has to achieve its greatest goals, building culture. Original works are of sale, based on the artist’s preference, however The Artist Bloc sells prints of the originals. Contact the store for more details.

We hope you enjoy this collection. The reception for each exhibition will be scheduled on the last, or fourth, Friday of each month. These receptions will consist of a live band performance, dancers, and other activities to contribute to this unique eexprience. Please stay in contact with our company through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and our home website.
