For forty years, Craft Ontario has delivered the most trusted, reliable and accurate show guide on the market, bringing craft events and craftspeople together through one publication. As an exceptional resource that allows show organizers, suppliers, craftspeople and the public to promote and access information, the publication works to increase the diversity and quality of work at Show and Tour events. With the addition of further online exposure through Craft Source online listings (www.craftontario.com/membership-programs/craftsource), participating in the Annual Craft Shows Book markets events to emerging artists, craftspeople and craft enthusiasts. At the same time, the book is continually referred to by craftspeople working in all media, making it the ideal publication for a wide variety of advertisers.
Please note that there is no endorsement implied by inclusion of listings or advertising in this publication. It is the craftsperson’s responsibility to research each craft show prior to entry to determine suitability. Please see the list of key questions to ask show organizers listed on page 8. Booth sizes, fees and attendance figures are the minimum stated. Admission charges are for adults.

key QUestions to Ask wHen cHoosing wHicH sHows ARe RigHt FoR yoU
The following is a list of questions to ask when determining whether a show is the right marketing tool for your work. In many cases, the answers may be found within the application for a show. If not, call and ask! When in doubt, try to visit a show before you apply. Please note that there is no endorsement implied by inclusion of listings or advertising in this publication.
How many years has the show been in existence?
How many years has the show organizer been in business?
Are the same people organizing the show as did last year?
What changes are being made from how the show was organized last year?
What was the attendance last year?
What is the advertising budget?
Where do you advertise?
How many vendors return each year?
How many vendors have booked spaces already?
What categories/media of craft are accepted?
What is not accepted?
How many vendors are accepted in my category?
What is the location like (town, city)?
What is the venue like (hall, park)?
Is the show held in several buildings - is one more desirable, better situated?
Is there plenty of parking?
Are there other events going on during the craft show (antiques, flea market, music festival, etc.). If so, are the craft booths in a separated area or integrated?
Have you ever had to cancel the show? If so, why?
Are you on site at all times if I have a problem to discuss?
What are your policies on booth rentals (non-refundable, notice of cancellation, etc.)?
Who are your sponsors, and how long have you worked with these sponsors?

Craft show organizers will provide you with general information upon registration, such as unloading instructions, floor plans, security, lighting, etc. When packing to participate in a craft show we suggest that you refer to the following checklist..

There are some things you can deal with ahead of time, such as planning your display strategy. It’s a good idea to arrive early and bring at least one helper with you to assist with setting up and sales. You may want to decide on a policy regarding sales (final, no refunds, exchange only, etc.), order lead times, discounts, etc. Lastly, consider demonstrations as a means of attracting attention to your work. Of course, to do this requires planning and the necessary equipment, workers, and supplies.

NEW VENDORS WELCOME!
PRESENTED BY
Dear Vendor:
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Simcoe, it is my pleasure to welcome you back to the Simcoe Rotary
Friendship Festival (SRFF), August 3-5, 2013. The festival’s organizing committee has worked diligently
since the conclusion of the 2012 to make improvements that will ensure a better all-around experience for
our vendors.
As an organizing committee, we are well aware that when a vendor participates in our event, it's because of
the commercial benefits and opportunity to earn a living. We do want to remind you that your participation
also helps the Rotary Club of Simcoe and many other charitable groups with important fundraising initiatives
and strengthening our sense of community as a whole. On behalf of the Rotary Club of Simcoe, thank you
for continuing to participate in our event, and helping us grow and succeed.
I'm looking forward to welcoming you back again for another fun, prosperous festival.
Sincerely,
Tom O’Neill
Vendor Committee Chair
Why choose the Simcoe Rotary Friendship Festival?
Participating in the SRFF as a vendor is a worthwhile investment. In 2012, visitors were surveyed about
about their spending habits and what attractions most interest them. The survey showed that 58% of visitors
have a household income of $50,000 or more; 76% of respondents spend at least $20 at the festival; 39%
spend $50 or more; and 33% come specifically because of vendors.
Based on annual attendance of approximately 30,000 visitors, we estimate that at least $450,000 gets spent
at the event over three days on food, drinks, and merchandise, and raffles. There is money to be made!
What’s new in 2013?
Overnight security will be added to help protect vendor tents. Organizers have also worked with Norfolk
County's by-law department and elected council to ensure that last year's parking debacle is not repeated.
The club intends to reconfigure the festival's layout and add a midway in the centre of the park, move the
beer garden, and add a second stage to the south side of the festival in what has recently been the arts and
crafts section. The club is also dissolving the division between the arts and crafts and commercial vendors
in an attempt to circulate more shoppers to all participants. There will be no increase in vendor fees in
2013. We have also simplified our application and payment processes to be more convenient.

46 THE ANNUAL CRAFT SHOW BOOK 47
cRAFt ontARio & memBeRsHip inFo
The Annual Craft Shows Book is a longstanding and trusted resource, and Craft Ontario is pleased to present the 40th annual edition for 2015. Through the Annual Craft Shows Book we connect makers to audiences, new markets, and opportunities, and at the same time, ensure that the public has access to the information they need to experience and purchase craft.
If you have come to this publication as someone who doesn’t currently hold a Craft Ontario membership, we’d love to take the opportunity to tell you a little about our organization, and encourage you to consider connecting with us.
Based in Toronto, Craft Ontario currently offers programs and services to over 1300 members across Ontario. Craft Ontario programs and services range from the retail location in Yorkville, which sells and promotes member work, to the nationally-distributed Studio magazine that fosters critical dialogue in the Canadian craft community. Further programs include the 900 square foot Gallery in Toronto’s Art and Design District; the annual Craft Awards program that gives out over $25,000 to emerging, mid-career and professional craftspeople; as well as additional retail opportunities that include the annual Craft Show and Holiday Pop-Up Shop.
Craft Ontario also provides business support services that include discounts on insurance, merchant rates, health programs, and supplies, and online Export Readiness database, as well as publications like Studio, CraftFl@sh and the Annual Craft Shows Book that altogether keep over 17,000 people updated on current issues, opportunities, and resources.
Membership with Craft Ontario is an integral part of building and supporting a vibrant craft community.
