A Call to Prayer Rev. Ranwa Hammamy
We are 4 months away from Election
Day. With so much on the line - locally,
nationally, and globally - the call to "UU
the Vote" has become a call to save
lives. It has become a call to move us
away from oppression and closer to
collective liberation. And it has become
a call to engaged prayer.
Join Rev. Ranwa Hammamy, Executive
Director of the UU Justice Ministry of
California to deepen your connection to
Unitarian Universalism's call to UU the
Vote, and find ways that you can
faithfully answer.

• Kevin Rose: Patty Rose’s father, William Paul Perry of Northampton, Massachusetts,
died early in the morning on Friday, June 26, 2020. He was 85 years old. He is survived
by his wife of 58 years, Jean Frances Hynes Perry, and by their two children, Patty and
her brother Andy.
• Kevin Rose: My brother Stephen Rose, and his lovely wife Stephanie are now the proud
parents of Ava Jean Rose - born earlier this week. She came early. They live in North
Carolina not to far from Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill.
Dear ones,
Many of you know that I will be away on sabbatical leave in the month of July.
According to the Unitarian Universalist Minister’s Association (UUMA): “Sabbatical leave is an investment that the congregation… makes in the future of a ministry. The minister accrues one month of sabbatical leave each year …”
Sabbatical leave provides time for ministers to step back from the 24/7 nature of serving our congregations and spend time resting and renewing for the work ahead. Some minis-ters choose to use part of the sabbatical time to travel, study, read, or engage in other forms of professional development. This year will, of necessity, be a quiet time of sabbati-cal for me.
After six years of serving as your minister, I am grateful to have the opportunity. While on sabbatical I will not be answering email, texts, or phone calls. The designated people to contact me in case of a congregational emergency are Jane Gray, Board Chair; Clacey Kahn, Administrator; or members of the Pastoral Care Ministry team.
In addition to the sabbatical month of July, I will be attending the UUMA Ministry Days and our UU General Assembly (both virtual) the last week of June, and on study leave the first week of August. My return to Live Oak will be on August 10.
The Worship team will capably assist with all the worship services and the Pastoral Care team will cover any pastoral needs of the congregation. If you need pastoral attention please contact the people designated each week in the Acorn newsletter.
I wish you all a healthy, safe and restful summer and look forward to seeing you upon my return!
With love and gratitude, Rev. Tamara

Religious Exploration
This Week in Religious Exploration: Thank you to Krystal for
hanging out with us in Religious Exploration last week.
Appreciating the input from the kids around the word
‘Independent” and it’s deeper meaning in our culture
today. It’s probably a topic we could discuss at another
time with more folks.
This week we are going to watch two videos on SOCIAL
JUSTICE and ACTIVISM. Powerful work and it’s a good
thing to be in dialogue about. Please join us, something
tells me here in 2020, social justice is a really good thing
to talk about.

We Are What We Need!
There’s nothing that we need
that together we don’t have.
No problem that together we
can’t solve, if we’re not
deluded to think the parts that
we’ve excluded don’t
need to be included in the
Whole.
Something “lacking”
is just an illusion.
We’ve simply not
programmed inclusion
of the pieces that are missing!
They’re in people we’re
resisting, who we continue
insisting “don’t belong!”
So, If we want to live
no more in need,
We must plant the seed - the
thought, that, “We are One!”
Lighten up, start
having fun, ‘cause the truth is,
"We Are What We Need!”

Volunteers Needed Come join us for some work made fun with fellow
Live Oakers.
We will limit people to 4 in the building and require masks
and social distancing.
Our project is to paint the inside walls of our Fellowship
Hall. We are proposing to wash the walls on one day and
paint them on the next day.
We are planning on a team of people in 3-4 hour shifts so no
one gets overwhelmed with work.
We can save Live Oak hundred of dollars if we can do this
ourselves and really clean up that space.
• Friday July 17 -washing of the walls
Time: 10-3pm in 3 hour shifts until done. • Saturday July 18- painting day
• Time: 9am to 4pm or until done in 3-4 hours shifts.
