Thanksgiving

Long ago, people in England wanted to leave

the country. These people were called pilgrims.

They went to America on a ship called the ‘Mayflower’.

The trip took several weeks, finally they landed at Plymouth Rock.

The pilgrims were not prepared for the cold winter and their crops didn’t grow.

Two native Americans called Samoset and Squanto helped the pilgrims.

They taught the pilgrims how to hunt, fish and grow

corn.

Because of their help, the pilgrims had a very successful harvest.

The pilgrims celebrated their harvest by having a

huge feast.

The pilgrims invited Samoset, Squanto and many other native Americans to join them as a way of giving thanks for their help.
