Texas History Tour, Part I - Comanche, TX, January 14, 2006

Thanks to our participating members for joining us in our Texas History Tour driving event to Comanche, Texas. We had excellent participation on this driving event to Comanche, Texas, located about 90 miles south-west of Fort Worth. We stopped at a couple of an-

tique stores along the way where some of us managed to purchase some treasures to take home. A nice country drive culminated in the city of Coman-che, where "Professor" Larry Vaughn performed a series of lectures about its place in Texas history. The weather cooperated - it was a gorgeous day and those who brought their convertibles took full advantage. We had a luncheon at Starbeau’s, a favorite local hangout, and Chef Beau did not disappoint. We saw Old Cora, Texas' oldest courthouse, which was moved to Comanche from the defunct city of Cora, Texas, after Comanche displaced Cora as the county seat. We visited the Comanche Museum, chock full of artifacts reflecting the rich history of the area. We were warmly welcomed by a very knowledgeable and friendly all-volunteer staff. We capped the day with champagne and des-sert at Todd Oneth's home in Stephenville. Pictures are posted below. Please enjoy.
