The goal of this activity is to practice correcting fused sentences.

A fused sentence consists of two complete ideas that are joined without the correct punctuation.

example: We had fun today we played a new game. (incorrect)

September 25, 2012

Here are three ways to correct a fused sentence:

• Make two complete sentences ( period + capital)(We had fun today. We played a new game.)

• Use a semicolon(We had fun today; we played a new game.)

• Use a comma and a conjunction (must have both)(We had fun today, since we played a new game.)

How to play:In teams of two, you must fix the fused sentence. The teams who fix the sentences correctly in the least amount of time will win.

1) Press the timer to start the time.

2) Drag any items in the box to correctly fix the fused sentence. ( You may write in any other conjunctions or punctuation you feel you need.)

3) Press the timer to stop the time.

4) The teacher will record the times; the class will decide whether the sentence has been fixed correctly ( teacher is the final judge).
