1 Definition of task
The company Hydro Building Systems GmbH, WICONA Technology Centre, 80977 Ulm, Germany commissioned ift Rosenheim to test air permeability, watertightness and resistance to wind load of the specimen of the system “WICTEC EL” described in the following. The tests were performed on the exterior facade test rig of Messrs. Gartner, 89423 Gundelfingen. The test rig meets the relevant standards. Test reports are available on the calibration of the flowmeters. The test was performed on the basis of the working papers of the European test standards for curtain walling available at the date of testing. Due to the fact that there has not been a major change to the test methods of the approved standards, the facade is classified according to the currently applicable European standards. 2 Object
Test specimen Facade section composed of 6 elements with fixed glazing – Basic sketch see Annex 1, page 1.

The boundary conditions were in accordance with the standard requirements. There were the following deviations from the test methods: 1. Air permeability test • Deviation - Test pressure differential steps Test performed Standard requirement 50, 100, 150, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 750, 900, 1200 Pa
50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 450, 600, 750 Pa
Evaluation of deviations: Due to exposure to the mandatory maximum test pressure differential and to values exceeding the maximum mandatory test pressure differential, the specimens qualify for classification as per EN 12152. The measurement method applied was in accordance with the standard requirements. 2. Watertightness test • Deviation - Water volume: A volume of 3.4 l/(m2 min) was applied, the standard
prescribes a water volume of 2 l/(m2 min). • Deviation - Test pressure differential steps Test performed Standard requirement 50, 100, 150, 300, 450, 600, 750, 900, 1050, 1200 Pa
50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 450, 600, followed by steps of 150 Pa
Evaluation of deviation: No pressure step 250 Pa. Due to application of the higher water volume of 3.4 l/(m2 min), it can be assumed that the final result will not be affected by the missing pressure step. Consequently, classification as per EN 12154 is possible. 3. Resistance to wind load • Deviation - intermediate steps of the test pressure differentials
Test performed Standard requirement 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 750, 1000, 1100 Pa
25% of maximum pressure = 275 Pa 50% of maximum pressure = 550 Pa 75% of maximum pressure = 825 Pa Maximum pressure = 1100 Pa

Evaluation of deviation: The mandatory intermediate steps have been covered by the test pressure differentials actually applied. The greater number of intermediate pressures allows more precise information on the behaviour of the facade element exposed to wind load. Classification as per EN 13116 is possible. 3.2 Persons attending
The tests were performed on 15 and 16 February 1996 on the exterior test rig of Messrs. Gartner, 89423 Gundelfingen, Germany, by Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Florian Sewald representing the ift Rosenheim. The following persons were present:
Mr. Ehrmann – Gartner Mr. Mengele – Gartner Mr. Deininger – WICONA 3.3 Test sequence
The prescribed test sequence was as follows: a Measurement of air losses of test rig b) Measurement of air permeability at negative and positive wind pressures up to
1200 Pa c) Watertightness at static pressure up to 900 Pa d) Behaviour under wind load at up to ± 1100 Pa; measurement of deformations e) Repeat test of air permeability at negative and positive wind pressures up to 1200 Pa f) Repeat test of watertightness at static pressure up to 1200 Pa g) Safety test (exposure for a period of 10 seconds at 1.5 x nominal wind load =
± 1650 Pa) h) Additional safety test at negative wind pressure at -1900 Pa and -2200 Pa
The present test sequence is in accordance with the requirements of EN 13830 – Clause 5.3.2. The air temperature during testing ranged between 10°C and 18°C.

Diagram 2 Area-related air permeability at negative wind pressure 4.3 Watertightness under static pressure
Watertightness under static pressure was tested at up to a test pressure differential of 900 Pa. No water leakage into the facade construction was detected. 4.4 Deflection under wind load
The specimen was tested for deflection at positive wind pressure up to 1100 Pa and negative wind pressure up to – 1100 Pa. As set out by EN 13116, the frontal deflection of the profiles between the points of support must be determined. The location and description of measurement points are shown in Fig. 1, Page 9.
Pp. 2 – 5 of Annex 3 show the deformations and the effective deflections. The effective deflections at the prescribed design load ± 1100 Pa were below l/200 and/or smaller than 15 mm.

4.5 Repeat test of air permeability The results obtained from the first test were confirmed. Since the values determined for area-related air permeability of A4 are more than 10% below the values provided, the facade construction qualifies for class AE. The measured values are given on page 6 of Annex 3. 4.6 Repeat test of watertightness
The results obtained from the first test were confirmed. The test was continued up to a test pressure differential of 1200 Pa. No water leakage through the facade construction could be detected. Thus the facade element qualifies for class RE 1200. 4.7 Safety test
150% of the ± 1650 Pa design load of negative and positive test pressures was applied to the test element for a period of 15 ± 5 seconds. Subsequently, the safety test was performed under wind load by applying a negative wind pressure of – 1900 Pa + - 2200 Pa. No visible damage, breaks or other visible changes could be detected. 6 Guidance on the use of ift-test reports
The ift-Guidance Sheet “Conditions and Guidance for the Use of ift Test Documents” applies. 6.1 Instructions for use
This test report serves to demonstrate compliance with the requirements provided for the performance characteristics associated with air permeability, watertightness and resistance to wind load of curtain walling. The present test report does not refer to all performance characteristics provided by the product standard. 6.2 Validity
The data and results given relate solely to the tested and described specimen. This test does not allow any statement to be made on further characteristics of the present design regarding performance and quality, in particular the effects of weathering and ageing were not taken into account.
