Staffing News: We welcome Mr Britts to Seaham
Public School. Mr Britts will be taking Ms Lowcock’s
position while Ms Lowcock teaches 5/6D due to Mrs
Dybell being away. Mr Britts will be teaching many
classes and covering some of our library
sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays for
the next two weeks. We hope that
Mr Britts’ enjoys his time with us.
Debating: I had the pleasure of adjudicating two
local Seaham V Seaham debates earlier in the week.
Please read Mrs Imbers’ report for all the
information. Debating is a wonderful way to build
confidence in our students. I was amazed at the
debaters. Some had never debated before, but got
up and bravely spoke for three to four minutes in
front of a large audience. Debating also means that
you have to think on the spot, not just read from
prepared notes, which makes it even harder. Well
done to all our debaters. You did a fantastic job.
Sun Safe and New School Session Times Trial:
As a Principal I am constantly working on and
updating many of our policies. Currently we are
looking at our Sun Safe Policy which will be
published shortly. Part of our policy is to look at our
session times, in particular when we have our longer
lunch break. Currently we have our lunch break
between 12.50 and 1.35, which is during the hottest
part of the day. In Term Four we will be trialling
having our lunch break first and our recess second.
This also allows us to lengthen our middle session,
allowing more time for numeracy, science and HSIE.
Tubs of sunscreen will also be available in each
classroom. Your role, mums and dads, is to remind
students to pack their sunsafe hat in the morning
and to provide personal sunscreen for their bag if
you don’t want them to use the classroom supply.
K-2 Athletics Carnival
A special sports session will be held for the
children who have achieved their Bronze
Card during Term Three. It will be on
Monday, 9 September.
The Silver Reward will be held in week ten
of this term. More details next week.
K-2 Athletics Carnival will be taking place
next Wednesday. Emphasis of the carnival
is on fun, participation and physical
activity.

Chess News
On Monday our boys did extremely well at a
competition run by the Junior Chess League.
As rounds progressed, players were matched
against players at a similar level, based on
progressive team scores. Seaham’s score of 14
out of a possible 24 was very impressive, as
they were matched against teams of Knight,
K i n g a n d C h e s s C l u b l e v e l .
Congratulations boys. Mrs Imber
On Monday we travelled down to Broadmeadow
to play Chess against other schools from
Newcastle. We competed against teams whose
schools have been entering the competition for
over 20 years and have had much more
experience than us. Despite this, we still
managed to win a lot of games and got lots of
points as a team. We were really happy with
how we went. By: Kieran and
Harrison
On Monday Harrison, Kieran, Andrew and I
attended a Chess day at Broadmeadow,
P.C.Y.C. At the end of the day our team had 14
points out of a possible 24.
Overall our team did very
well. By: Robert Morris
Welcome to
Seaham Public
School
Sophie
Today we have welcomed
Sophie Jordan to Seaham
Public School. Sophie and
her family has moved to
Seaham from Townsville in
Queensland. Sophie has
joined 2A. Ms Atchison has
commented on how quickly
she has settled in.
On Tuesday, Seaham soccer boys went to
Bowthorne Park to play a game of soccer
against Tuncurry Public School. The final score
was three to zero, Tuncurry’s way. We all tried
our hardest. At the end of the match, although
we lost, we had heaps of fun. Bradon and
Isaac

Debating News
Yesterday we had another Seaham V Seaham
debate on the topic, “Pets are Pests”. First time
debaters for the affirmative team were Andrew
Akerman, Eden McCaw, Aleece Richardson and
Olivia Teterin. The negative team were
represented by Sophie Taylor, Jordan Thompson,
Anna Muddle and Milla Kime. What a fantastic
debate! It was really close and the standard of
debating was very high, with every speaker
scoring many points for their team. The
affirmative team won by one point.
Congratulations debaters. You all did a terrific
job. Mrs Imber Absent: Andrew Akerman Seaham V Seaham Debaters
