Why is Technology Important?

• Technology is this generation’s “paper and pencil”

• Every generation is different.

• Essays = collaborative wikis and maintaining websites and databases

website in the United States and sixth most popular in the entire world

• In 2007, MySpace had over 200 million accounts

• According to the census in 1984 about 8% of the population had a computer.

• 62% in 2003

• The figure in 2003 is 54%.

• At this rate by 2009, there will 90% of households with access to the internet.

• I would estimate that 90% of my students have access to the internet!

• A Day in Biology I– Students are divided into groups. Students complete

each station in the time allowed and rotate to the next section until all stations are complete.

– Keeps students moving and out of their seats. – Takes planning and supervision, but you are not

lecturing. Very student centered.

Moodle Assignments (These are online assignments)• Science Station #2 – Student could put together model

atoms or draw food chains• Science Station #3 – Students could test various foods for

When

• I devote one entire class period to working online per unit I teach.

• This frees my liability for students who do not have access to the internet at home.

• I also make it a point to stay after school at least one day per week with the laptop carts for those students also.
