The Technology Services department Enterprise Communication Networks (ECN)
team, working with Layer3 Communications, Aruba HPE and Infratel, successfully
connected the Tanner mobile home park with wireless connectivity on Wednesday,
May 23, 2018. Using the district’s technology infrastructure, the mobile home park
is wirelessly connected to Kirk elementary school using Aruba’s HPE high-speed
remote wireless access points. This level of connectivity provides students the
same level of technology resources and connectivity at both school and home.

Because the technology teams (ECN, Layer3, Aruba HPE, and Infratel)
could not get clearance to use the tower at Kirk elementary, they came up
with an alternative plan that included connecting the wireless access point to
the tower at Cook middle school. Without a successful, strong wireless
connection, the team moved back to the original plan of using the tower at
Kirk elementary school. The day of the May 23rd celebration, the team pulled
resources together including CFISD maintenance to run cable, and worked
with Crown Castle (the owners of the tower) to get approval to use the tower
at Kirk. By the afternoon, the wireless connection was up! This was an
AMAZAING accomplishment and demonstration of strategic partnership!

May 23, 2018 Celebration at
Tanner Mobile Home ParkThe success of this project is significant. To
the team’s knowledge, there isn’t another
project like this in the state or possibly in
the nation. Though there are monthly
broadband and LTE (radio frequency)
implementations, there is a monthly
reoccurring charge for connectivity. Exciting
opportunities for students are on the way!

I participated in the end of the year Voice of the
Customer technician meeting on Wednesday.
During my part of the agenda, I focused on our
results. I reflected on how much time and
energy has gone into refining the Great8 expectations and
working all year long to perform to the very best of our
ability. The results show and I was so proud. The meeting
was a great success. The lunch and fellowship with the
team was even better. I appreciate our staff. Thank you for
all you do and have a great summer. Frankie Jackson
