But first!

What is ‘Enhanced’?

More engaging.★Draws students’ focus.★Hooks them into the subject.

More efficient.★ Takes less time.★Consumes fewer resources.

Tech in the ClassroomRules

The focus is always the language content, NEVER the technology.

Supreme Rule

Rules to live by:

1. Keep It Simple, Silly. (The KISS Rule)

2. Practice, practice, practice.

3. Abandon first, troubleshoot later.

4. Always have a backup.

KISS = Keep It Simple, Silly

As the focus is on the language content, use the simplest form of technology to enhance the lesson.

Avoid unnecessary add-ons, frills, or doodads.

Practice, practice, practice.

Go through every slide. Twice.

Run every clip. Three times.

Click every link. Four times in three browsers.

Abandon first, troubleshoot later.

If it breaks, you have seconds to fix it. Then, abandon the tech and do it another way.

Again, the focus is the content and not the technology.

Always have a backup.

Minimum: A non-tech barebones failsafe.

Maximum: Multiple USBs, copy in the cloud, copy in your e-mail, multiple formats, and a whole spare classroom with replacement students.

Find a happy in-between.

Wait!

“This is how its always been done” is a horrible excuse.

One more thing...

Tech in the WorkplaceCommunication

The Humble Horrible Fax Machine(Minor Rant)

E-mail like you are talking.

An e-mail does not need to be a formal letter.

A perfect place for KISS.

(Plus: Its safe, its free, and its easy).

Something like this.

Hi Ken,

When you come to visit the middle school next week, could you bring an activity for “on, under, next to, behind, etc”?

ありがとう、田中

田中先生、

はい! I found a good lesson online, how does this look?

Ken,

Looks good. But could you change it to use Japanese characters instead of American characters?

田中

Absolutely! I’ve attached the new version. See you next week.

Tech in the WorkplaceCollaboration

How’s the weather? It’s cloudy!

Google offers an entire office suite with Google Drive, for free.

Drive, DropBox, and other cloud storage services allow for collaboration at any location.
