ACU Excellence in Teaching Award

• Why?• “to encourage and reward high quality teaching by

members of the academic staff”

Excellence in Teaching Awards Procedures

• Home > myACU > Staff > Resources > Teaching and Learning > Excellence in Teaching Awards

• nomination made by committee of at least three academic staff from School of which nominee is a member

• would normally include Head of School • includes nominee’s particular strengths in teaching,

and reasons for the School’s support of nomination

Criteria for Assessing Teaching Excellence

1. Approaches to teaching that influence, motivate and inspire students to learn2. Development of curricula and resources that reflect a command of the field3. Approaches to assessment and feedback that foster independent learning4. Respect and support for the development of students as individuals5. Scholarly activities that have influenced and enhanced learning and teaching

Excellence in Teaching Awards Procedures

Summary of teaching responsibilities in current and preceding 3 semesters including

• approximate class sizes• statement outlining the nominee’s involvement in

each unit

Excellence in Teaching Awards Procedures

Short listed nominees required to submit a statement which

• outlines philosophy of teaching and learning• provides evidence that shows examples of their

philosophy in practice• may be presented in medium of nominee’s choice• is limited to maximum of 10 examples equating to no

more than 30 minutes of viewing or reading time
